So what does it mean when you say you’re in the key of A minor? I’m new to all of this but I love these videos
@kenm11672 жыл бұрын
"A Minor" is a scale, which is a group of notes that sound good together, which begins with the root note of "A"
@johng93932 жыл бұрын
it’s a scale, yes. but it’s a key center or a tonality . you can have key of A minor without a scale . Scale expresses a key center . but a melody can and usually does express a key ( center ) or tonality without playing all the notes of a scale this is difficult to express . I believe key is primary and a scale expresses a key. i hope that helps
@NatenNator4 жыл бұрын
How old were you when you learned that major/minor pentatonic relationships work exactly like normal major/minor with the same intervals and everything? I was today years old...
@IStruggleWithGuitar4 жыл бұрын
@Nathaniel Reynolds. That's hilarious. "I was today years old" when I learned about pentatonic relationships... (OG Daric, the book is writing itself). 🙌🙌🙌
@JDclk3 жыл бұрын
I learned this when I was a teenager learning piano. Music Theories are essentials for playing creatively seriously.
@NatenNator3 жыл бұрын
@@JDclk yeah, I know. I have a BA in music but we didn't cover jazz theory so I only got pentatonic scales a little in the bass lessons I was taking on the side. He knew I was a music major so he was like, "OH, WE CAN JUMP STRAIGHT TO THE HARD STUFF!!!"
@JDclk3 жыл бұрын
@@NatenNator hahahahahaha 😂 well I don’t think much time was wasted! The teachers knows best supposedly lol I only took a online training course for music theory gospel music around the age of 18 I think it was! I recently got into learning this bass guitar like 2 years ago and applying the knowledge I have from keys 🎹 is like a close sibling relationship but executing on the other hand is difficult! Daric make it look so easy in this video!!! Also been learning sax at THAT is kicking my a** because the keys are named differently and it throws a lot off with trying to apply 🎹 theory to the 🎷 because of “concert key” names 😩 Descending on strings is way tougher than ascending for me! I can get carried away talking about music 😆
@NatenNator3 жыл бұрын
@@JDclk lol! Yup, concert key can be confusing if you're not used to it! It all has to do with the length of tube used on the instrument. Especially brass because things like trumpets didn't originally have valves. You had a different trumpet for every key!
