I remember when this came out, it was the first Elliott Smith song I'd heard - my brother's wife had just had a still born boy and so I'd hear the "I'm never going to know you now, but I'm gonna love you anyhow" and the words seemed to somehow fit. Needless to say, it started a love of Elliott's music.

Huh… so strange. My name is Justin Kyle Blevins. I go by Louie O. Blevins cause my son was stillborn and was named Louie O.. When we buried him I told him “I’m never gonna know you now but I’m gonna love you anyhow.” I haven’t played the song since it happened and I refuse to now. Only because I started getting serious about writing songs about 2 1/2 years ago and one day when I play one of my favorite 3 venues I’ll play it for Louie. My first album comes out late July. It’s alt-country but it’s obviously influenced by Elliott. Most folk that have heard it say it’s like a southern Nick Cave which was nice to hear. Anyway, I feel your sister in-law/brother’s pain. Did they give him/her a name?

You sing and play this beautifully, and I thank you for helping me get started on this song I only discovered yesterday. I like the sound of your guitar with the pickup and how you strum with your fingers, as in my favorite video of Elliot Smith playing it. I am going to listen to your version just for pleasure, too!

Never thought Jessie Pinkman would teach me how to play this song.

It's seriously impossible to maintain one's composure while singing this song unless one is truly dead inside.... it's just that sad. The feels make it impossible to not start crying. Thanks for the tutorial, looking forward to doing my own cover of this song.

That's some great singing. Elliott is hard to imitate and you sing it really well, man.

I think that little unknown chord is something either like a diminished 6th or maybe augmented G or C....I think.

Camera tip/request, in a guitar tutorial your having hands fully in view (particularly the chording hand) is more important than your head.

Sounds much better your way. Hell, I learned all but, for some reason unknown, the bridge. It was also 14 years ago. Yikes.

I know my strumming pattern is different from what he did and the tempo is a little faster, but what else exactly are you referring to?
@hazeofthegreensmoke5053 жыл бұрын
@@SoldAsIs he does a run throughout the intro/chorus consistantly. Also you straight up play a Gmaj at the end of the chorus instead of I believe an Am. If you listen to him playing the song acoustic you'll see what I mean!
@louieo.blevinsmusic41972 жыл бұрын
@applecider he means he always plucks the melody within the intro/chorus every time. (I could only assume) There was always a G before the verse starts tho. Play the songs how yall want, everyone. Hell, Phobe Bridgers barely plays Whatever (Folk song in C) You wanna do a good Elliott cover your way not the way Elliott did it cause it’ll literally never be topped.
