I do like that you explained the absolute basics, YGO 101, Rulebook page 3, to lure in people who’ve never played and then you hit them with the Ash and Imperm at the end.
@dracoblizzard7944 Жыл бұрын
Handtraps are only "complicated" to people who've played before but refuse to accept them, to someone who's never touched a card game before, cards that you can use from your hand whenever probably make perfect sense and there would be no confusion. Honestly, rulings aside, handtraps are probably some of the simplest cards that still see play in modern decks.

@@dracoblizzard7944 Handtraps are fairly simple in how they work if you take the time to read the text, yes, especially Ash since it technically only does one thing. The complicated part is explaining new players why they’re so good in modern formats and what a “bottle neck” is.
@MasterofLaziness Жыл бұрын
I realized I wrote an essay, so have a tl;dr: Yugiboomers complain about non-battle-oriented handtraps due to differences in how they view deck interaction. Battle-oriented ones are generally fine. @@dracoblizzard7944 As a concept, handtraps *are* simple. They are traps that trigger from the hand, and they have been around since the beginning in the form of Kuriboh in the DM era. GX had Gorz, who is the sole reason players from that era attack weakest to strongest. The issue older players have with them is that all the original handtraps before D.D. Crow were battle-oriented. There was a period between Crow and Effect Veiler where more of the same kind of battle-based handtraps were released, but since then most handtraps released after it are designed to prevent you from "playing the game", either through negates, board clears, or drawing a ton of cards. It's an interaction thing, and while newer players can accept negates as an inherent part of interaction, older players see that as control that stops them from being able to enjoy pitting their deck against another's. However, these are also the same type of players who complain about unbreakable boards when plenty of outs have already been printed in a game designed to keep you buying cards to stay competitive. I do feel like the competitive version is overkill with its "just draw the out" style of gameplay these days where a scoop is much more common than a real interactive game, but at the same time, buy some damn cards if you want to get back into it casually. There's modern support for nearly every hero and villain from the OG series, which is always a great place to start.

If you do that then your opponent can call a judge since the possibility to draw exodia in your opening hand is almost winning the lottery. Is very probably that you cheated.

Honestly the core mechanics of Yu-Gi-Oh are incredibly simple. The only thing that makes the game complicated are the effects, and even then all you need to do is read them carefully. I was playing with a friend who didn't really understand the game (she only semi-watched the old anime) so I lent her my blue eyes xyz deck so we could have a friendly duel. On her first turn, she started roasting me for "having too many high level monsters in my deck" I looked at her hand, and low and behold saw that she had a nebula dragon and a Blue-eyes White dragon in her hand. Had she read those cards, she could have used the effect to special both it and blue for a free rank eight. It's all about putting in the effort to read and understand cards.

First off, is that card’s name “Nipple Beaver”? Or is my screen acting up again? Secondly, this gives me some ideas for rules adjustments that can be made to make the games a little longer: ⚪️Players with minimum sized decks start out at 8000 LP, BUT for every card past the minimum, you gain an additional 100 LP. So a 60 card deck would have 10,000 LP as compared to a 40 card deck. Smaller decks are generally more popular for consistencies sake, so something like THIS would help Larger decks compensate. ⚪️Monsters can be normal summoned/set in face-up defense position OR facedown attack position, and you can normal summon AND set 1 monster each per turn (IE normal summon 1 monster and then normal set another in the same turn.) This would shift some power away from special summoning back into normal summoning, and would be a boon to Flip monsters.

@MagicianOfFlame Жыл бұрын
This might be a bit unpopular, but I don't think that this is how we should teach people to play the game. The mechanics are of course important, but most games end before any battle damage is made. The game is not really about summoning monsters to do damage to being them to zero, and more about getting interruptions in your end board and your opponent trying to break it. Of course, some times OTK (dealing lethal damage) matters, but I think it is mostly a non-factor.
@linksora7120 Жыл бұрын
Could you help explain link summoning and pendulum summoning? I still don’t understand how to do either of these yet synchro and xyz were easy for me to understand
@fosterdawson7339 Жыл бұрын
Link I think is similar to Xyz summoning, but instead of levels the link monsters usually say what type of monster they need. If it’s something like a link 2, it either needs 2 monsters or 1+ monsters if there’s another link monster in there, as long as the link arrows add to at least 2. Pendulum tho 😅
@fluffalpenguin Жыл бұрын
Pendulum summoning is easily the most complex of the summoning mechanics, but it's still not too terribly complicated. You can activate pendulum monsters into your pendulum zones as if they were spell cards. Once per turn, when you have pendulum monsters in both pendulum zones, you can Pendulum (Special) Summon any number of monsters with levels between (exclusively) your two scales from your hand and face-up extra deck. So with scales 1 and 8, you could summon monsters of levels 2-7. The only added restriction is that monsters from the extra deck must either go into the Extra Monster Zone or a Main Monster Zone pointed to by a Link monster. Also, if a pendulum monster would go to the GY from the field (for any reason) they go to the extra deck face up instead. Link summoning is pretty much just synchro summoning with fewer restrictions. You just need to send monsters that match the requirements on the link monster from field to GY to match the amount of Link rating on the monster, where all monsters are worth 1 link rating and link monsters can be treated as their own link rating instead (so a link 3 can be treated as either 3 or 1). They also can only be summoned into either the EMZ or an MMZ pointed to by a Link monster.

@Torchlava100 Жыл бұрын
And in todays game instead of bringing the life score to 0, we instead stop the enemy player from playing the game, ever. Thus ruling out the need to attack directly as it is too slow. It is way faster if the enemy player leaves the game, leaving a game state where you instantly win and get ridiculed by for making a unbreakable board.
@Firebird-he3sz Жыл бұрын
And this is just the bare basics. Wait till we get to the wording on card effects and how chaining works with them. But what do we know, most players don’t even read anyway. 😝
