As an ex ploughing demonstrator in the 80's i watch many ploughing videos on you tube and a lot of them make me cringe with their lack of commitment or knowledge. It is a refreshing change to see someone who knows what they are doing and have a passion for ploughing. Your ploughing is a credit to you, it's plain to see you take pride in your work. Well done that man. 👍

Subbed you buddy great video I could never plough straight but won some furrow drawing cups my father 72yrs old use to love watching him ploughing straight as a dye we have a family member HUGH BARR from Ireland 🇮🇪 world champion several times 👌
@GEOFFKV60805 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Great talent to have ploughing at that level especially to be world champion. I'd love to have ago ploughing at national level but don't have the time or transport to get to events with the plough.

When you return to travel over your plough out I'd suggest slightly deeper to throw soil over the edge and merge with original. Otherwise when you top dress or spray you'll feel that line on every run. Everyone an internet armchair expect :) apart from that tidy work, be proud and keep it up.
@GEOFFKV60805 жыл бұрын
Hassle 68 thank you. That line is the depth wheel not sure if I can get front furrow to turn it that far. Will try what you suggested next time out.
@Hassle685 жыл бұрын
@@GEOFFKV6080 👍if lands light enough a bit deeper and bit faster should do it. Strong land the wheel wont mark. Good luck, it's a dying art with direct drill.... until black grass shows then your skills will be in demand.

When you come back the other way to turn soil back in , I find if you drop the plough in deeper so it has no play on toplink it makes a better job , cool video

@@GEOFFKV6080 I only do it when iam coming back opposite way, filling in the open furrow , it stops the plough riding in and out of the ground so much

How do you do it if you want to start against hedge and throw out leaving open furrow in land?
@660einzylinder6 жыл бұрын
That's a nice tidy finish, good to see someone with a bit of pride in his job, and clearly doesn't have any qualms about people looking over the hedge at his work.

thank you. these fields got reseeded so I wanted the ins and outs as level as possible. they'll be getting foraged for 5 years. I don't mind anyone looking as long as I know I've the best I can in the conditions at the time

will the same technique work when ploughing up pasture land? i think you are ploughing arable land in this video ? Beautiful job though !!
@GEOFFKV60805 жыл бұрын
I find on grass land doesn't always work to well, I find the grass stops it from running through twice and tends to block the plough. Depends alot on the soil type as well. You just have to try it every field is different.
@maesy67305 жыл бұрын
yes, i can see the grass sod just rolling up in the plough .

I don't really understand the ploughing the first run both ways. Also surely by double ploughing you're uncovering trash and potential weeds that could grow?
@GEOFFKV60805 жыл бұрын
doing this leaves the headland run level with the middle work. There is no trash uncovered its all buried as you can see. i thought the same untill i give it ago years ago. Give it ago yourself

the hedges were put in over 1000 years ago to keep livestock in or out as the case may be ......and to mark property ownership ..........they will be there when we are all dead and gone ............!

Maybe just stop plowing. You ever heard of a plow pan? actually quite bad for your soil. Not to mention compared to a chisel plow or disk with a roller seed to soil contact is far better.

A typical American thinks everything should be done there way yet plenty of British farmers plough and get far better yields than use lot
@duncangodfrey14484 жыл бұрын
Greg Shearer Britain tried the American way decades ago, machines were heavy and expensive to run and maintain,tractors were bigger and heavier,and the yields went down. Quite funny listening to Americans speaking about what’s good or bad for soil when theirs blow away in the wind 😂 their soil erosion is far worse than ours 😂
