Excellent info my friend. As an old timer that is way out of practice and trying to get back into playing regularly, trying to navigate all the new technology that has surfaced since I was in my 20's and 30's is a bit daunting. I've been trying to figure out how the amp sim world works and how to get the best tones from it. I'm slowly making progress with a lot of help from youtubers like your self who unselfishly provide the necessary guidance. I still have my JCM800 half-stack but it is way to loud for home use. I tried using a Marshall Powerbrake but it sounded terrible to me and I can't afford to layout a couple grand for a Freyette Powerstation so I've decided the amp sim world would be a good alternative. Your info is simplistic and straight to the point. Thank you bro!

Thanks for the video. I got this weird problem since maybe last 10 years and despite trying almost everything, I just can't figure it out. My guitar DI sounds very very very boomy and thin at the same time. I've tried amp sim plugins from Neural DSP, Mercuriall, ML sound, Amplitube, TH-U, STL and many others. The final guitar sound is horrible. Totally unusable. I've watched countless youtube videos and tried to setup my plugins exactly like any user. But the sound is totally horrible at my place and it's absolutely beautiful when others play on youtube. It's almost night and day difference. I've tried to import other people's DI into my DAW and run it through my plugins. And it sounds awesome. It's only my DI which sounds horrible. This makes me believe something is seriously wrong with my input signal. I've tried on RME Babyface Pro FS and Focusrite scarlett 2i2 (gen 2). Both sound horrible when playing live, but awesome when running other people's DI through my plugins. I've tried to mess with the input gain knob on both the interface. Tried to set them to zero (and also higher previously). But the results are same. Boomy and thin at same time. Can you please tell me what's wrong? Thanks a lot!

Great video thanks. My question is why not use the Noise suppressor after the Distortion pedal as opposed to before it? How I have my set up is dynamics/drives/noise sup/volume/modulation and fx. Thanks!
@PatPosse
@PatPosse 4 ай бұрын
Because most of the noise you hear is created by the guitar’s pickup and not the pedals. The pedal only ads tons of gain to that noise that is already generated by the guitar so if the noise is cleaned up before it hits the distortion stage you end up with a cleaner, tighter sound as supposed to trying to suppress the already distorted noise

Hi all, Issues: Loud random static noise pop up on one HS8 left speaker and it won’t output guitar sound. Unless I change guitar preset on my Hotone Amero stage 2 and it works again. Sometimes it produces loud pink noise (on both speakers) and it won’t go away till I switch the power off on guitar processor and speakers. It’s happening every time I play almost every day. Connections: Guitar -to Hotone ampere stage 2 - Xlr out from Hotone to XLR in Yamaha HS8 Studio monitors. Usb c to usb a to laptop. All the power is from one power Board. Please advise if you any idea how to get rid of these- thanks in advance.

If you don't have a "speaker" or "output" jack on your amp you might have a "headphone" jack which can be used also.......... Worst case if you have no output jacks, you can set up a microphone in front of your amp and run the mic into your interface to record.

If the interface should be at zero why not just plug direct into the computer.. like a Mac and use the mic gain in the computer? I use the old school iRig straight into USB C input on Mac with adapter.. I can't justify buying a digital audio interface because it has to be at 0 anyway. Any opinion on this? I'm old school and am just getting into the amps sims. :)
@PatPosse
@PatPosse 20 күн бұрын
Because of the converters. That’s really what makes a great interface. The better the interface, the truer the sound will be to the source. The iRig is a great tool and fun but it the audio it puts out is far from what your instrument is really capable of. It all comes down to what your end goal is. If you just want to play around and record some sounds, the iRig will do just fine. If you want to record something even remotely good, you’ll need an interface. Hope this helps.

I really like this video, thank you 🎉 also I have a question that might be a bit stupid 😂...but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. the then “purpose” of the pedal/looper is to loop or have effects, right? and play them “live” ( since most of them connect to an amplifier) but is it also the “purpose of a looper/pedal” to connect to the interface to be able to then “record” in your laptop whatever it is your creating? Or what is the main purpose of connecting the pedal to the Interface? ( does my question make sense? ) Hahaha I'f not I apologize
@PatPosse
@PatPosse 2 ай бұрын
Maria, thanks a lot for your question! Glad you loved the video!. Here's the thing: You are confusing two functions (which I never connected but they have the same exact name! LOL). And "Effects Loop" is found in an amplifier (or can be created within a DAW - Video on that this weekend 😉) and it is meant for you to add Effects to an already amplified signal (i.e, adding Delay AFTER the Distortion on an amp). A Loop PEDAL (such as the Boss RC3) is made to record a section onto it (or load music to it) and essentially have it play that music or repeat that music section you recorded constantly (loop). That's where the "Loop" pedal name comes from; repeating a selected section or recording over and over in an endless loop. Hope this clears that up! Thanks for watching and commenting!!

Hi man! three things come to mind... 1- 0db might not necessarily mean "no extra gain added" but 0dbs of output which would be a different thing. Might need to refer to the manual on that 2 - Maybe there's a software setting either on your interface or DAW that is driving your signal hotter.. 3 - Maybe faulty cable or very hot pickups... Shoot me an insta message I'll do my best to help you troubleshoot this!

@PatPosse
@PatPosse 4 ай бұрын
Many of us believe analog sounds better than digital. Also less strain on your computer and computer use, the fact that you can use the sound you already know and love plus actual knobs!!! Having a real knob limits your options and that frees you to spend more time playing and recording…
@nonstopgok5396
@nonstopgok5396 25 күн бұрын
I'll just add to that. Sometimes there's a huge difference. Especially as it builds across multiple tracks in a mix. Also often plugs in don't act the same way as the analogue original. In that setting the controls the same, doesn't produce the same results. As weird as it sounds, even plug in versions of old digital studio fx processors, don't really sound as good. I think so anyway.

I have a thing I am trying to do, but I dont think its possible with my 2in/4out interface. What I have is my interface, an hx stomp and pedals. Some pedals go in front of the HX stomp, some go in the fx loop of the stomp. What I want is my interface to run like a mega loop I guess you could say, that has my hx stomp in it. Why? I want to be able to have plugins before and after my whole guitar chain.
@PatPosse
@PatPosse 6 ай бұрын
That’s the definitely doable… it won’t be stereo but you should be able to do that by going from the guitar to the hx to the input of the interface and your digital signal chain. And then use the built in I/O plugin in your DAW (that’s for Logic and most but your DAW might have a different name for it) and set that up to go to the FX loop on the HX. It’s a bit hard to explain via message but I hope I can at least get the idea across so that you can look up a video on how to do it. I will make a video on this but it’ll take a while and I assume you’d wanna have it up and running before then…

@@PatPosse Yea, I get that it can be hard to describe, I almost need a diagram to understand it and explain it myself! lol I can add an ADAT to my interface and then I should be able to go stereo with it. What you are talking about is how I am running it now but I have pedals in the HX effects loop. I would love it if I could have plugins before and after my whole guitar rig. I had something sort of going with rearoute (Reaper) but I needed one more input channel for stereo and I gave up.

Hmm. It should work perfectly… make sure you are going out of the pedal to the input on the interface and that it has a working battery or power supply… do you have any sound coming into the interface at all?

@@PatPosse Yes, the interface works just fine, just when I turn the pedal on I get no audio. The pedal works with an amp, but not the interface.

Hm. Weird. I would really have to see what’s happening to troubleshoot it. Is there a chance the cables are in backwards? You’d be surprised how common that mistake is in studios… make sure you go from the output of the pedal to the input on the interface and check to see if there’s any activity on the interface itself. Does the green meter turn on when you play through the pedal?

Pat, do you know if its possible to use my effect pedals inside my daw to add (delay for example) to any existed track, without using a di box?? (I dont want to use them on guitar).
@PatPosse
@PatPosse 6 ай бұрын
Of course! I will make a video about that eventually but what you’ll need is at least one free Line Output jack on your interface and then come back to an input on the interface with the processed signal. It depends on the DAW but on logic is done via the I/O plugin. Check it out ! I’m sure there’s tons of videos on KZbin! Let me know how it turns out! (Or you could also just send it to the pedal and comeback on a printed track)

could you not use the plugins built in noise gate?

It could be done, my guitar and environment (because of lighting and very hot pickups) is very noisy but you could get away with playing (and recording) with some of that hum. It would be very annoying for a KZbin video though 😅

wow, you showed nothing in this video (other than plugging cables into pedals). I don't play guitar, but with keys, samplers, and other hardware, there is so much that should be considered, as they should be with guitars. With guitars, you should consider reamps, as they are sometimes highly necessary, and/or a DI BOX if you want to record an acoustic via a mic. ALso, with many pedals, you probably want to consider a power supply, because noise is going to potentially start adding up (fast) by the time the signal leaves the DAW. And since you are now placing the guitar into the DAW world, there are now MANY great pedals that include MIDI connections (the top tier Meris LVX and Mercury X, Chase Bliss, and Hologram pedals to name a few of the greats). I at least hope you show how to properly set up all the routing. From configuring the audio interface routes (in the AI software), to the DAW routes (from tracks to master bus/aux outputs), or with plugins like Abletons 'External Audio Effects'... which treats hardware pedals like they were VST effects. This is a huge topic man, you can't 'properly' do it in two 8-minute videos to achieve the best sound, and use the fewest PC/CPU, and audio interface, resources to keep latency to a bare minimum. There's nothing worse than hearing lag on a delay or modulation effects. Then there's the whole HUGE topic of using outboard gear, and pedals, for mixing/mastering.

Being a graduated Music Producer and Engineer I know it all to well… there’s no way to board all of that in 8 minutes. I give personalized one on one lessons that go from the very basics all the way up to mastering. Getting into Atmos now but I don’t really think it’s relevant yet. This was just a quick video to clear something up that I see messed up all too often. It has helped a TON of people (judging by all the positive comments and messages I’ve gotten thanking me for this) but I also know you can’t please everyone and there’s always going to be some insecure asshole who will try to over compensate by trying to show that they “know” more than you. Luckily, KZbin is nice enough to let just ANYONE record and upload videos. Go record your own and show us how it’s done! Looking forward to that link 😉
