How To Polish A Stainless Steel Watch | Basics Of Polishing Metals

I just bought my first polishing machine and I was really enthusiastic about polishing whatever I could find. The first thing that popped in my mind was a stainless steel watch so I did my best to bring back the mirror finish so as it was when I firstly got it. Enjoy the video!

Yes it gets glossier, but the scratches are still there. How to combat that ?

You need to go through with sand paper first if you want to remove the deep scratches.

Will it easier to rust and corrode after polishing? Because I'm afraid that polishing it may remove the outer protective layer of stainless steel.

There’s no such thing as outer protective layer in Stainless steel and no corrosion either since it’s stainless steel

You will lose a little bit of material each time you polish. I would advice using cape cod or autosol or any sort of polishing liquid on a cloth (even dialux can be used) and rubbing gently with a lint free cloth as opposed to buffing with a machine. It should remove any minor scratches. With buffing frequently or improperly you also risk losing the shape of the watch, the sharp lines, etc.

hi, may i ask because the caseback of my seiko 5 have a single deep scratch though it's not noticeable since it is on the caseback, do you think it can be repaired? and how much do you think it will cost? just wondering if you have any idea :)

Darren Wolf wouldn't risk it, you could rub the plating of, I find that very small amounts of "T cut" polish up my watches beautifully, just take your time,,

Sorry but this is not polish. Polish is the art to remove all scratchs. This is a demonstration of how to make more brightness. Sorry the art of polish is more than that.

I can see there are still some very small swirls left, i have that too when i polish my watch, is there a way to get rid of it like a super fine polish or something

these could have been leveled out by putting in more intermediate steps. At the end you can't remove the scratches left before when leaving out some steps

You can buy a polishing machine or a regular table grinder with polishing tabs for 10-20$.
