7:40 ... use of walls, fences, street lights, in general anything that the model can lean or sit on, or interact in any way, helps a lot. You go from "I have no idea what to do with myself" to situation which is known and safe, and takes model mind from "shit I'm being photographed" to performing some simple tasks :D

Your tips on posing is really great! I especially appreciate your videos about posing "non models". However, in this video, and also in other videos, I find the poses work great for pretty young girls and fashion style photography. But, what if your model is a older person, say in her 40s or 50s? (Many of my friends are ;)) I guess that would require more natural and calmer poses. I would love to see how you would direct and pose her.
@juliatrotti4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! And yes I agree, that the posing I do is more suited for younger clients and you could do similar with a more mature subject and just tone it all down and bring it back a little. I think with these videos I show that creating movement with your subject is key in making them feel comfortable and creating natural looking poses for your photoshoots regardless of age, rather than finding a pose online and getting them to copy it with which a non-model usually ends up looking quite stiff and unnatural! Thanks for the suggestion though, I will see if I can make a video about this :)
@narlenga4 жыл бұрын

Hi Julia. Hope you are doing well as always. Thank you for sharing all these awesome contents. I've been following you for quite a while. You works are really amazing. I love your interesting angles, color grading and without any doubt beautiful models. So, I tried to analyze very closely and figure out what makes your photos so great. Finally realized something. Your cropping (before and after taking the photo) makes the photos standout. I know it comes naturally after years of shooting. However, I would love to see a dedicated video based on cropping techniques/angles; things that you think matter. Say hi to Den. You are amazing. Thanks in advance.

Hi Julia, first of all I want to congratulate for the quality stuff you publish. Keep posting such great video! I would like to ask you a technical question: it seems to me that the unedited images are a little underexposed. Is this done intentionally to avoid blown out details? I'm learning portrait photography and if I'd set up the camera, I would have compensated the exposure a stop or two higher. If you could share this information, it could help me understand your technique and learn something from a professional. The final results are simply great, however! ;-)
@juliatrotti4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, I appreciate it! Yes I usually like to underexpose my images slightly for 2 reasons. The first one is I just personally like editing from a darker photo and pushing the shadows + exposure up, I especially like doing this around blue hour in the last set of photos against the white fence with the jasmine flowers, I'm not sure how to explain/word it properly but it almost gives me a flatter looking image when I push the exposure up in post that I find looks really pleasing. The main reason though it that I am usually exposing for the brightest part of the image to make sure nothing is over (as much as I can without underexposing everything else too much - so a balance between the two). I find saving the shadows is a lot easier to do with my raws that saving blown out spots in photos. For example in the first set I was exposing for the white top which would have been blown out if I had exposed for her face or more of the background instead. Then when we were shooting against the shorter fence with the tilting your head tip, I was exposing for the brightest part of her skin that the light was hitting to make sure there would still be texture/detail in that area when I went to edit the photos. I hope that helps!
@EnricoCaleffi4 жыл бұрын
@@juliatrotti it does help a lot! I agree with your considerations and looking again at the video keeping this in mind makes a big difference. I always struggle to tradeoff between the face and background exposure and I like a lot your approach. I will keep your answer as a reference for my future sessions (expecially for my daughter portraits ;-) ). I must admit I wasn't expecting such a detailed and complete answer. I really appreciate it, and this confirms how much you love photography and your work. Thanks a lot! Keep working like this.
