How to Pot Tweak Xbox 360 Lite on Benq DVD Laser

Seen serveral videos on this but I think this one might be the best. Our Xbox has not been used for years (and not much in total). Would not read anything when I tried it today. Adjusted laser from just over 5ish to 4.2ish. Together with adjusting the lasers distance I went from not beeing able to read anything to reading every time again (at least as far as I have tested).

Thank you for the comment. I had seen a couple other tuts on this and most of them you couldn't see the reading so i made sure that this video you can, aswell as keeping it short and sweet. Glad you have your xbox up and running again =D

I got my Xbox 360 out from my basement so my 5 yr old son and I can play some games. After a few it stopped reading. I tried a disc cleaner and that didn't work. Then found a vid on how to clean the laser. That didn't work either. I was JUST about to pull the trigger on a new laser but I found your vid. Adjust mine to 3.46 and works like a charm. Thanks so much! Now I can my son I can can play these old Burger King games haha.

Well done for bringing your xbox 360 back to life. Going through the pain staking task of even just opening those damn things without breaking any clips warrants a trip to BK with your son and play sneak king and the likes. 👑😂👍

Well done. I have 3 Xbox 360s with the same problem. Every other tutorial was very difficult to understand, but yours is very detailed and easy to understand. I only have an analog multimeter, so I'll have to buy a digital one for this fix. But they are under $20. Small price to pay to get my 360s working again. Thank you!

Thank you. Oh damn that is unfortunate. It was the reason why I made this video. Not one tutorial displayed the metre reading clearly calibrating the pot. I would definitely get a digital one. It's a very handy tool not just for reading pots on laser. Hope you manage to fix them because it's way cheaper than having to get replacement drives or getting laser replacements matching the drives. 😊

I love this vid 😊 I did this to my partner og xbox 360 late 2008 falcon model. I didn't use a multi meter because I knew what I was doing because I done hundreds of laser calibration for drives that had (laser deterioration) I do strongly suggest for people to use a multi meter if your doing this! Also depending on how old the model on the og xbox 360 u have. You have to be careful because if you do this incorrectly the xbox will detect a fault and give you 3 red lights on the older models! I professionally repair phones and laptops and xbox og xboxs 360s xbox ones and xbox one x and xbox one s and series x and s i started professionally repairing 11 years ago its a passion hobby and job I refuse to give up! So it's always lovely seeing repairing videos like these or even modding 💖

Thank you so much for the comment and for your input and helpful tips. Sounds like you have alot of expertise on refurbishing hardware. Always nice to be able to share helpful tips on fixing and restoring products and in a way being anti consumerist and helping the environment from preventing more E-waste on landfills. Nothing worse than seeing something that's completly salvagable go to waste or those people who want new tech every year just to throw away something that works. Although the 2nd hand markets helps this problem. There is still to much choice out there and alot of unjustified upgrades because companies want to milk you for what it's worth. I just pot-tweaked a console I received today as faulty, laser now works again. MFR Date is in 2010, so it's a late Phat model, worth fixing. I basicaly eyeballed it, kind of as an experiment, but also because I didn't really care whether it worked or not. For some reason I managed to get it to work, but I neither trust the laser nor the drive (it doesn't open half the time and I don't know how long the laser fix will work). I have six or seven RROD consoles here, might grab the key off the broken Lite-On and flash it onto one of the drives from one of these RROD consoles. Might even have another Lite-On, then I'd just have to switch the boards. Edit: Ok, nevermind, I can't find my old flash set for Xbox 360 Lite-On drives, that I had put together years ago. Been years since I last flashed a drive. I've just ordered five new lasers and 20 rubber belts on aliexpress for together around 15 Euros shipped.

Thanks for the help! My laser was already dead after many tries. I had a spare laser and I did check the Ohms and it read 2.79K Ohms. I tweaked it to 3.63K ohms and it booted up and read the game on the first try. I don't know why a new laser shipped at 2.79K ohms.

Wow, this worked. Thank you! I adjusted the pot down to 3.2 and it works great now at 3.5 the game would play but I would get a disk error. I know this is a long time ago but by chance do you know what the left pot should be set to? Highest reading I can get on it is 1.88.

Thanks for the comment. If you are still getting Disk errors. Your laser might be on its way out. I believe the left pot is the dvd readings. You can try 1.5 or lower as dvds tend to not need as much power to read discs

Open the Xbox 360 is pure pain, the clips are from hell. Have the open tray error, the 360 can only read disks when I am knocking on top when the console read the disk after closing. Laser re-calibration or magnet problem?

It's one of the worst consoles to open. sounds like a failing laser or possibly needing recalibrating. It's worth trying to pot tweak and see if you have any luck, failing that is a laser replacement.

@@AzNstat Recalibrate the laser from 4,6 (Fat Philips / Lite-on disk drive from 2008) to 3,5. Nothing changed. The 360 was 8 years not used, but everything was fine in the past. 360 was very very dusty. Maybe the Spindle Motor is super dusty, and need to oil it? When it not help.. you know which laser I need? :/ Thanks for your answer and help. Sorry for my shitty english, not an native speaker.

So my box plays games off and on pretty much when it wants so I’m guessin this may be the solution, done everything but this so hopefully don’t need to laser swap i don’t have an iron lol
