You're right! As a English learner I was rushed to keep up with the pace of native speakers and it was so difficult... Not only I needed to think and translate it in my mind, I needed to pronounce it correctly.....and do it all at the speed of people who didn't need to translate or even think so much, it was just flowing. I'm working on pronouncing and articulating now...

Hi, Rachel! I think I'm going to be pretty sentimental now but I really do love you! I mean, in my job American English pronunciation (i know it sounds weird) is much more important than vocabulary and language knowledge at all. I've always though that I've never had my native accent while I was speaking English but heard it finally when I moved to US for the first time. And the worst thing was - i couldn't understand where exactly was my mistake, and was very depressed about that. You helped me to hear and improve the sounding of myself, helped a lot. Thank you so much, you're doing a great job, and please, keep going!

Great video. I am a native speaker, but I have a strong Southern accent that I would like to tone down. I also cut words short and sometimes speak too quickly, so people in the business world get the impression that you're less educated than you really are. I've been looking for lessons that could help me and this is encouraging. I think that companies/trainers need to market more to native speakers and not focus mainly on non-native speakers. For instance, I have the tendency to ignore training that's marketed heavily towards non-native speakers because I feel that it's not going to help me as much, or the level will be too elementary for me. Communication is the biggest obstacle to succeeding in the work world and I've found this out the hard way. Hopefully your training will help! Thanks for this great interview!

Hi, Rachel. Since I found and started using your channel, my English pronunciation and understanding of everyday speech by native speakers have improved a lot. But I still find it sometimes really hard to understand TV shows and films in English. I have read many articles about experience of non - native speakers learning English as to improving English listening comprehension. They advised me not to expect to catch every word, but to listen for key words and main ideas. The problem is, I am aware of that, but sometimes actors, actresses either talk too fast or softly, i can't even hear a word, so how can i understand what they're saying? Of course, it's impossible. So I hope you can give me some tips on how to improve me English listening skills. Thank you very much.
@kame1582amigo4 жыл бұрын
wow I have the exact same issue here. I realize this comment was posted 4yrs ago. Did you come up with any solutions or just let it be and expecting someday you would magically catch what they're saying😂cuz that's what I'm doing rn. 😂

Hi Rachel! First of all, I think you deserve a prize for the way you are distilling the nuances of the American English. Congratulations! One thing that I'd like to see is the reduction of the preposition "while". Sometime it sounds like /wal/. Is that right? Another thing: how to get exercises to practice your videos? Thanks!

The way Tom pronounces the word "probably" (at 08:14) sounds so strange to me as a native British English speaker. Do most Americans say the word as just one syllable?
@rachelsenglish8 жыл бұрын
+THX1138PR No! That was a moment where Tom just spoke too fast! He wasn't very clear with that word. The casual way to say "probably" in American English is more like "prolly" - but many people will say all three syllables. Thanks for catching that!

@rachelsenglish5 жыл бұрын
The best way is a combination of study/practice and actually using the language with native speakers, (preferably). As far as speed goes - the more you can surround yourself with the language the faster you'll learn it. I wish there was a way to magically download a language - but till then - have fun with study and practice and practice and study! :)
