In this video, we look at different ways to practice licks and how to add them to your solos. In addition, we look at the different improvising and musicianship skills it develops.
The Lick Library is a new online resource from The Jazz Pursuit. Here you'll find packages of lick walk-through videos from iconic jazz figures whose improvising language form an important part of the jazz tradition.
The first instalment features Charlie Parker and includes 50 licks taken from 15 iconic recordings. These licks are organised into accessible categories including individual chords (major7s, minor7s, dominant 7s) and common cadences (major/minor/short II-V-Is, unresolved II-Vs and I-VI-II-Vs).
