What little details have you made for your home campaign?

I open with asking a player to recall the last session, that gives me a final second of prep and listen in to pull ideas that I didn't think of prior, or clarifications to miscommunications passed. (The Let's-get-our-stories-straight portion) Then I play an opening song whose title, band, lyrics, or theme suggest insight into something I expect to happen in the current session. For instance, my group was heading to the "Haunted House" in Ghosts of Saltmarsh, I queued up "Ghost Town" by The Specials, now knowing the combat they are starting the next session on is against giant centipedes, I'm doing "The Bugs are Really Bad Out Here" by Spose. I do this to give the players a second to clear their mind and focus on the transition to the game world, so to speak. I love it because there's invariably a moment at the end of the song you see some players who heard the lyrics and have an idea of what's coming, but collectively you get ALL of their attention without a word and when you speak it's important to remember that's the first second with the verisimilitude becomes palpable from the start without fail. I highly recommend it.

I made either custom tailored items for my players or I found items online that fit perfectly, because my train of thought is that basic magic items are fine, but if you want the character to be rememberable they have to be fun and have something unique to them, but that's just my thinking

I'm a first time DM, Brennan is the reason I started DMing and I've been happily running my campaign for 5 nearing 6 months now. I've custom tailored my campaign to be fun for the characters that my players have. I use most of these already, I prep what I know I'll need and some random other things and it makes improvising stuff so much easier. Anyway great video, left a like and a sub ^^

Great video. Keep the D&D stuff coming and you'll blow up. As a DM I try to prep enough so that my players don't realize I have to make up so much. Instead of naming each NPC I just have a list of about 10 of them and plug them into the situation as needed.

What do you mean 1 week between games? I'm DMing and my players what me to DM every time they have spare time. So last week I DM 3 days in a row and this week will be DM 1 day rest the next and DM again. The best part... Those mf think I have it all planed because of random NPCs and storys I tell them... Honestly there's nothing wrong with doing this if you're just starting out. Its normal advice in many other hobbies - recreate the song beat for beat, copy another artists work to learn how they did it, etc. etc. Obviously you'll stop finding it fun eventually, and you'll develop the confidence to free form it more as you practice
