Great. Yet again. Perfect timing with my composting toilet research. I viewed every video I could find on composting toilets, and yours is the most complete and succinct of all of them. You answered dumping questions most did not even touch let alone barely mentioned. Really great job. And there is even ANOTHER composting video! I rarely get information beyond the questions I have. Thank you. Really glad I subscribed.

Here's a little hack for you 😊 put a sm container of "Damp Rid" in the back of your solids tank. I used a 3M tape to adhere the can to the side of the bin where it won't get hit by the crank but you can get creative and use any method that works for you 😉 It is amazing and the best hack so far 😄 It keeps the moisture level down to the bare minimum and takes care of any lingering odor if any? Water may accumulate in the base of the Damp Rid container so I just dump the water into the garbage or you can use it with fresh water to soften the new compost going in the bin. It's a wonder cure for odor and possible dampness from humidity. Take care and thank you for sharing your journey with us. You have great stories and come up with some great ideas too 😉 Please stay safe and take care. Michelle from Michigan 💖

Damprid, this material is classified as hazardous under OSHA. Goggle it.
@TerminalThiccness5 жыл бұрын
@@liadbar-el8570 It is, but only if direct prolonged contact with skin occurs or it is ingested. If you are not playing with it nor eating it you're fine. Wear some disposable gloves if you're doing a manual refill and wash up after and the problem is solved. It emits NO fumes/gases and is not overly flammable but will of course burn if a fire is directly applied. I read the OSHA sheet just now.

this makes it so much easier to understand thanks. Also i think i understand why another couple had such a bad time while dumping their composting toilet. Either the 1 overflowed or someone forgot in the middle of the night to close the trap door, or it got too wet/slimy and they did not know your hack of adding some dry material and blend it, or they just let it go too long without making sure it was indeed having the right conditions. The lady did say when it is just her the problem doesn't happen but he is an athlete (cyclist) and eats a LOT....which sounded like she was saying he is consuming too much food for their composting toilet. Men just are major poopers LOL! Lady composting seems so much easier.

use septic safe tissue for composting toilets...thanx again Robin for giving us all the info on the composting toilet...for those who aren't familiar with why the labeling of septic safe products you can google search it but it's because it breaks down or dissolves in the septic tank eliminating clogs or back-ups...those of us who grew up before the advent of public water and sewer systems will remember the history. I still live in an area where even though we have public water we are not on the sewer lines and thus have a septic tank. Septic tanks require care and use of septic safe products because they work on the bacteria principle as commented by a few subbs, also requires limited use of bleach type and drain cleaner types of products as well as limited use during rainy day weather....just sharing my 65 year old knowledge...can't wait to see next "POOP" video LOL

I have been looking at different composting toilets and three brands that I was interested in. The Nature's Head was number one on my list, then I looked at an Air Head then I learned of the C-Head. Out of the three I preferred the C-Head because it was cheaper and also the bucket it had was easier to handle. I saw another KZbinr use the C-Head in her rig her name is Bex The Cat Herder and she did a detailed discussion on the C-Head. Just thought of sharing it here for others who are considering the composting toilet option.
@experimenteks39746 жыл бұрын
Nice points about the milk jug option which I forgot to mention. That's another thing that made me decide it was the better choice. Overtime parts of our toilet will need replacement. With the C-Head it is easy to do so without spending too much money. Its easier to just line the bucket with a compostable plastic bag. Take note, not biodegradable bags but compostable trash bags that are safe for the environment. A lot of people think the biodegradable bag and compostable bag are one and the same.

I got a nature's head. Lots of good reviews on that one and the C head. Both seemed good, but I chose nice because with the optional "spider handle" crank it for in my very small space. Most work the same, but sizes for installation carry. That was the deal breaker for me. Hope this helps!

what about baking soda in the urine tank? I use it in my basement toilet that has a terrible grinder pump system. it helps tremendously. I thought bleach mixed with urine, which i thought was ammonia was bad, it makes some bad fumes. oooh you are only cleaning it with bleach then rinsing, try baking soda, you will be pleased i think :) learning a lot! thank you so much Robin!!!!!

Hi Robin, Thank you for your tips and hacks. I enjoy your "can do" attitude as a single woman. I was watching another RV channel on what not to put in a standard RV toilet to clean it when a thought occurred to me....How does one clean the bowl of the composting toilet? In a regular home toilet poo sometimes leaves "evidence" that it had been there and I imagine the same thing can happen in a composting toilet. Since the goal is to keep the compost more like wet coffee grounds then what can one do to clean out the bowl and not compromise the compost bin below it?

Cyn, I'm not an RV'r yet, but I watched a great video (can't remember the guy's name), but he talked about the difference between regular TP and RV TP. There is a huge difference even between RV vs Septic safe; I didn't think there was until I did my own test (using water ;)). can you just shovel it out of the bin, without taking the bin out to turn upside down? seems like that would work well with like a fireplace shovel. because you dont want to wash the bin anyway, you want to leave some organisms in there. that would be less intrusive when other campers are around, and easier if heavy or tight quarters. have you done this?

A quart sized plastic milk container works well for men. ToolTime would make a nice holder for the side of the bed. A Walmart or other bag can be used to carry it into a gas station restroom so you can dump it in the toilet. Rinse it out. Buy a new quart of milk once in a while and replace the jug.

bacteria can be good and bad , to insure that you have good bacteria you need to make it yourself , it is very easy to make and add to your composting t . The bacteria that I am talking about grows in anirobic (no oxagen ) and arobic ( oxagen ) environment , the bacteria was used in Korean naturel farming and is used for natural fertilizer farming tek The bacteria I am talking about is called LACTOBICILIS , it is used in a lot of health foods like yogurts etc. T make this good bacteria you mix rice water ( starch to feed culture ) and milk , then let ferment in 3 days add molasses for long term storage ( no refridgeration 1 K years ago ) Please reasurch ytube LACTOLICILIS , ITS GREAT AT OVER TAKING AND KILLING BAD BACTERIA AND KEEPING YOU SAFE PS I love your channel !!!!!!! PSS I have a background naturel no till farming tek

I have to say, when my husband was stationed in Korea, in 1973, with the Army...I joined him 6 months later...not a sponsored tour, but I still did it. Anyway, back then, I can tell you that "human manure" was used all over S. Korea...but, it also caused a lot of dysentery, like it has in some other poor countries...it's not safe...I don't think "human manure" should ever be used. We adopted a newborn baby girl there and sadly when she was just 8 months old, she died of Shigella (a type of dysentery) It left us both devastated, because we could not have children of our own and we were unable to adopt in the US, because my husband had cancer once previously...compliments of Agent Orange, on a tour of duty in VietNam. The water is not safe to drink either, because this "human manure" from the planting fields leached into them...if we were to drink it, we had to use either chlorine tablets or boil it for 3-5 minutes. Mostly, we hauled water from the base where my husband was stationed at the time, as we lived on the economy.

As a former owner of up to a dozen horses at one time that poop and pee anywhere, one person's waste is pretty inconsequential. Compared to all of the millions of disposable infant and adult diapers disposed of in one day one person's partially composted waste going into a landfill is no big deal. It will be bulldozed over and in a generation it could be a ski hill like the one in Flint, Michigan.
