Hi Guys,
In this video I am going to show you what being a nail tech is all about. I get so many questions asking things like "why have my nails lifted?" and "Why don't my nail last long enough?", well it's all about the prep my dears.
When clients turn up at a salon they can have nails in any state. This wonderful client is a biter and I am going to show you how I prep this kind of nail ready for Acrylic or Gel application.
Now, I like to start by telling my client off for biting lol. Honestly though, I do it myself when I don't have nails on. After they have been thoroughly chastised, I clean the area and start pushing those cuticles back, which will reveal any non-living tissue, Now don't get confused with non-living and Zombies like Adam did.
I'll tell you a secret though, if the appointment is early enough then sometimes I do have zombies walking into the salon! Nothing that a brew won't sort out though.
It's so important to remove this non-living tissue because it creates a barrier between the product and the nail which leaves pockets and this causes lifting!
Anyway, for the rest, just watch the video ducky.
Love Kirsty
xxxx

Thanks Kirsty, I'm studying distance learning Nail Technology and find everything easy but i always check up with my clients that i do not charge and they have mostly said a few of their nails have come off after a days or a week. I feel really disheartened by it because I'm doing what im taught but watching and hearing you say don't use cutticle remover oil as the acrylic or gel wont stick to it. I think i just found my problem. Your a genius, i love your work, your very FIERCE 😍😍😚. SEDNDING MY GRATITUDE FROM DOWN UNDER AKA MELBOURNE VICTORIA AUSTRALIA 😍. I WILL TRY WITHOUT CUTICLE REMOVER OIL AND SEE WHAT MY OUT COME IS. BLESSINGS TO YOU GORGOUS ANGEL 😍

I do my own nails, after years of going to a salon. Do many people say different things. Every time I do mine I use the cuticle gel remover from Sally Hansen. I never have lifting. I do usually use alcohol after to clean and dehydrate, and I always use a primer. It's crazy to me how everyone is so different!! Just because it works for me doesn't mean it will work for everyone. Some people just make more oil then others too. Don't be to hard on yourself!! You're doing an amazing thing!! I hope you find that technique to be beneficial to you!! Keep experimenting too, there's always something to learn or improve!! I just recently started using an e-file!! Man did that up my game, but it's scary haha!! I wish you all the best!!!

Dead and nonliving could possibly be synonyms but they do NOT mean the same thing. Dead means that an organism was alive at one point nut no longer is. Nonliving an an object that was NEVER alive. Like a vase. You wouldnt say that a vase was dead because it was never alive before.

Jacqueline-Emma Dulcie I have one client with an extremely sensitive cuticle area, and with a quality e-file (less vibration) and the really small cuticle bit (scyver?) all she feels is a bit of a tickle, no pain or discomfort at all. Hope that helps.

@cassieLBscoville 6 жыл бұрын
Jacqueline-Emma Dulcie We used “Cuticle Away” at school to push back (had to then wash it off with soap and water before nipping) and never had to use any type of file to remove the cuticle. The “Cuticle Away” never affected how the nails stayed on, once they were dehydrated afterwards.

IMPORTANT QUESTION: whenever i get acryllic nails in square or coffin shape they always curve and turn sqaoval and round. i use my hands a lot between home and work so my nails get banged up a bit. I've never had hard gel application or nails sculpted without a tip glued on. would gel nails or sculpted nails make a difference or will nails always curve overtime no matter what?
@lnuma92
@lnuma92 7 жыл бұрын
Mercedes Igus There could be two reasons for curving: 1) The tech applied the tips in a downward direction (which is incorrect) 2) Your natural nail growth pattern has the free edge grow in a downward motion. Assuming that your issue isn't the latter, I would say sculpting to an extent can help, but it's more based off on how the form is applied. All in all, either one won't necessarily "correct" how the nail grows. Hope this helped in giving insight and good luck! 😘
@Mercedes.375
@Mercedes.375 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your response, but no my nails dont curve downward at all. and it has nothing to do with how my nails grow, everything is perfectly straight. What i mean is when i get straight or coffin nails that is supposed to have a nice straight edge, after a few days the edges curve and look rounded, as supposed to staying nice and straight.

Heya because you use your hands a lot you’re nails have basically gone blunt. If you wore stiletto shaped nails they’d end up very round at the end instead of pointy and sharp. It’s very normal to happen when someone works a lot with their hands

I have a thyroid issue, and my natural nails are thin (not paper thin, but they just don't feel tough enough like others. I also rather no attempt to open a soda can, cause my nails are too weak). My thin nails have stopped me from getting acrylics. Every Solon I go to, the ladies always shave/file down my poor nails down with the efile thing, and even if I ask to not shave them too much (language barrier doesn't help much) I always get the same outcome, to where I feel the warmth of the file bit getting too close down (I'm always sweating bullets, cause I'm so nervous they might accident get too far into my nails). Then they place the glue on my nails, then they place the face acrylic nail. Then a top layer of acrylic pink powder. Hmm. I've never seen any body do nails so nicely, professionally and artistically like Naio nails here, with just acrylic powder and not shave down the nail. Really wish she lived close by. 😅 So I never get my nails done. 😭

Valerie Cristina: I have hypothyroidism and have the exact same issue! I do nails myself though, so luckily I do not have to go to a salon and sweat! The one time I did (wanted to pamper myself and be the client for a change) my nails almost got filed of. I would suggest to be firm about it and really say they should buff with a hand file. Using an e-file on natural nails like ours is a no go. It is your nails after all and language barrier or not it should be possible! Love from Denmark

Shane Madrid Make sure it’s a bit specifically designed for the nail plate. There are so many out there they say they are, but they’re not and cause horrible damage. Always be gentle and cautious, and again, stay on a low setting as she mentioned. I just graduated from school and to be honest, we pushed back the cuticle with a solution called, “Cuticle Away.” It helped loosen the non living tissue and made for a great removal. After washing it off with soap and water, we then nipped. We never used efiles to remove the tissue. Once we dehydrated the nail, the cuticle solution didn’t negatively effect how the nails stayed on; that’s just another alternative. Using the efile (when done correctly) is definitely awesome as well. I hope school is going well 💖

Hi how do you know whether the client has gel or acrylic on their nails when they come in for a fill?
@gangstergiirl
@gangstergiirl 4 жыл бұрын
Client can usually tell you if their previous nail technician took out a liquid and powder or if it was gel in a bottle. If not, you can push down gently on the nail and if it's hard and not flexible then it's acrylic but if it is slightly flexible then it's gel

kirsty ... love these prep videos....technical question.... why don't you soak the nails to soften that dead tissue on the cuticles? ? I'm just wondering if there is a reason...and is this just the prep for using acrylic and gel nails. .. always love your stuff kirsty!!!

Wendy Murphy I'm not sure for her but for me is because it can sometimes make the nails too moist and the product can have a hard time adhering to the nail plate with that much moisture in it. It's essentially why I for use any oils or lotions till the end of the service so there is no chance of fit on the nail plate while doing the application of acrylic or gel. Hope this helps and I didn't jamble on too long lol.

You should never soak the nails before gel or acrylic application. The nails absorb the water, lotion or oil and the product can't adhere on it. Also trapping moisture between the nail and the product can cause fungus as well.

Dry non living tissue is easier to remove than if it was softened.

@AwwwSweetieDarling it's time saving but that's not the reason why you don't soak. The gel or acrylic just won't last long and can cause fungus as the nail absorbs water and is trapped between the nail plate and nail product when it starts to evaporate after an hour.
