I’ve been here in my house for thirty years and if those stalks are thrown on top of the cut asparagus those berries will act dry up over the winter fall off and replant them self, early spring I add 4 inches of compost to my asparagus area, and my crop keeps spreading and producing abundance.

Hello Diane and Mark, Our berries are green on our asparagus and the seeds fall naturally . We cut our asparagus always in the spring. It is at least 10-12 years old.

Great video. I just planted Asparagus seeds for the first time this year and they are doing great.. After cutting down in the winter, you add 4 to 6 inches of mulch? Do you remove that mulch in the spring? My question is because if I keep adding 4 to 6 inches of mulch each year my raised bed will over flow lol.

I got roots from Home Depot last year and I got berries and seeds that fall from one of the 3 plants.

I thought asparagus plants from nurseries were usually male plants, as they don't use their energy to produce berries. My asparagus plants have never had berries. Male plants usually have thicker, longer spears as well

Strangely, I saw a single berry looking like asparagus ones today in the garden. It was laying alone on the heart of a leaf near the ground level. Maybe it was just a red currant dropped by a bird passing by...

Hello, I’m in Pa. also and new to asparagus gardening, confused as some videos say wait until all fronds turn yellow/ brown…. Some of yours are green still?

Yes, we are a bit early in cutting them down. We did that so people could have the info when needed. Good observation!

Hi from NZ. Just getting ready towards planting asparagus as our seasons are opposite to yours. Do they prefer to be planted in single rows or what is the recommended spacing depth between rows? Appreciate your time and effort in making the videos. My wife and I are doing the back to eden method. Do you have an email address I could contact you on? Keep up the good work 👏 👍

Just watched a video that said no to cut them down but to must let them die and fall over. Then in the spring cut them down.
