Ultimately the accuracy of the tax return falls on the taxpayer not the person they outsourced the completion of the return. The business owners are signing the return under penalties of perjury. If you are going to use a tax preparation service make sure your contract specifies if they will be responsible to reimburse you for any IRS penalties and interest because they did not prepare the return correctly based on the IRS rules.
