@The Story We Write
• We need to talk about ...
Hey Everyone! ) I’m Anna and welcome to my channel. Here, I post some useful information for English learners. I’m from Ukraine and I’ve worked on my English and accent, for the most part, on my own, but you can find out and trace my story by watching my videos. I’ve been studying American pronunciation for a long time, and I still do, and I guess I always will - because it’s not math. Learning a language, it’s a lifetime journey. I know exactly what it takes to become fluent and acquire an accent in a non-English speaking country, and I’ve never even been to one. And I’m sharing this information here - on my channel.

I like your channel; your pieces of advice are more than justified and accurate. The way you introduce new words over the videos gets the audience across new vocabulary and the right way to use it. Your pronunciation demonstrates the hours of hard work and the determination of self-improvement.

Great video Anna - all your points of advice are excellent! I grew up in the south eastern US - you honestly speak English and communicate better than 98% of the locals I knew growing up- in any case your advice here to everyone is incredibly good and true. And I love your reminder about real experiences/practice being much more valuable for quick advancement than more and more studying of theory - a good old saying: “In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.”

I just discovered your channel and after watching your latest videos (assuming you are a native speaker) I just randomly clicked on one of your 2018 videos and only now do I realize that you had an accent! You made a serious improvement towards actually coming of as a 100% native speaker. Congratulations! This is my aspiration at the moment as I'm practicing my english pronunciation and fluency skills everyday. Bless you and thank you for your contribution

You're an amazing person😊 you always try to keep learning and sharing all the things that you know for us to have some ideas and to help us to improve ourselves. I've been learning English for quite some time but there comes a time that I felt tired and I wanna quit but when I saw you, I realize that I need to keep on moving forward even though I felt like I'm not doing a lot of improvement in my English speaking skills but I believe that someday I will be able to acquire the knowledge and skills that I prayed for and that I worked for just like. It takes a lot of time and effort to be fluent in English most especially for us who don't have someone to talked to

In interview with Ethan you were amazing. You sounded very confidently and like a native speaker. Even though I don't know you personally, I was proud of you! I have a question about the trouble you mentioned in this video, specifically, how to tap into vocab you know fast enough in order to sound more like a native, providing that you have a lot of input?
@GRADER800
@GRADER800 2 жыл бұрын
You didn't ask me, but I'm going to answer because I can relate to your question. First things first, every person is different and one skill that may be difficult to acquire for one person, it maybe be easier to acquire for another one. The reason being is that every person has his own set of tools. Last but not least, there's no such thing as a "unique" method to achieve the same goal for two persons, that it may be possible I don't deny it, but it's not all the time the case. Here's the thing, what it works for you it may not work for someone else, and vice versa. In my personal experience, I was having a hard time settling new English vocabulary in my memory; I was trying to learn long lists of words and phrases as I did back in the day, when I was at school in my native country. What I didn't realize at the moment it that learning a foreign language is a whole different animal; to remember something, you must have experiences with images and emotions that evoke words or phrases, as it happens in real life ...Long story short, the method I found was the creation of a journal with about 400 phrases, including phrasal verbs, collocations, and so on and so forth. I have every single phrase linked to video clips that just use that specific phrase I am clicking on. Now, I can retrieve vocabulary faster because I have images and emotions associated with phrases in a contextual manner. The bottom line is the language of memory is not letters, but images.

Good tips Beautiful Hannak, but there are some differences between Europe and Latinamerica. In the last one, age is a factor. I´ve asked why look for a career when I am about to retire and my retirement might be in 10 years. But you have an excellent point that experience helps you to give examples. Communication skills are a plus and you can get a job just because of having that ability.

THE MOST DEAD-END LIKE INTERVIEW I HAD WAS ONE IN MANHATTAN, WHEN I WAS IN COLLEGE, FOR A JOB. THE AD SAID :"LOOKING FOR A BRIGHT YOUNG MAN", ETC. WAS I A BRIGHT YOUNG MAN? THAT DIDN'T MATTER TO ME. HOW WOULD PEOPLE KNOW, ANYWAY? I JUST HOPED TO GET THE JOB. IT WAS WORTH TRYING. SO, WHEN THE LADY ASKED ME "WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU'RE A BRIGHT YOUNG MAN?", THAT KNOCKED ME OUT. I DIDN'T THINK I WAS BRIGHT, MOSTLY IN A CULTURE THAT WASN'T MINE, IN A LANGUAGE I DIDN'T MASTER. I JUST FIGURED IT WAS A FORMULA, TO GET PEOPLE'S ATTENTION. TO ME, IT WAS ALMOST FUNNY. I FELT LIKE SAYING :"LADY, WHO CARES IF I'M BRIGHT OR NOT? SHOW ME THE JOB, YOU'LL KNOW IF I CAN DO IT OR NOT!". IN THE END, SHE ARGUED, RATHER, THAT MY HAVING CLASSES TO ATTEND TO, WELL, DIDN'T MAKE THINGS IDEAL FOR SELECTING ME FOR THE JOB. OKAY, I THOUGHT THAT MADE MORE SENSE. I, CERTAINLY, WASN'T GOING TO TRY AND PROVE THAT I WAS BRIGHT. I DON'T LIKE TO GET ATTENTION FOCUSED ON MYSELF. BESIDES, I DIDN'T REALLY THINK I WAS BRIGHT, NEVER HAD, IN SCHOOL OR ANYWHERE. SO, I , ALSO, FELT LIKE SAYING :" YOUR COMPANY SHOULD HAVE PUT THE AD TO EVERYBODY'S REACH, AND, THEN, YOU WOULD PICK THE YOUNG MAN WHO SEEMS BRIGHT, TO YOU!". I WOULDN'T DARE ARGUE WITH AN INTERVIEWER. AFTERWARDS, I FELT IT HAD BEEN A BIT LIKE SOMETHING I HAD SEEN, IN A COMEDY SHOW :"IF YOU KNEW YOU DIDN'T SUIT THE JOB, WHY DID YOU COME?." ANSWER :"I JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU TO COUNT ME OUT!". THANKS, THERE! IN FACT, I DID TELL THE LADY THAT I HADN'T COME THINKING THAT I WAS BRIGHT. NICE. MY CHANCES OF A POSSIBLE DATE WITH HER WERE ALREADY GONE. SO, IT WAS BETTER, ANYWAY, NOT TO GET THAT JOB. MY WAY OF PUTTING A SILVER LINING TO THAT CLOUD.
