Since when was engine oil level part of the MOT?

i never thought it was but on one car i had it got an advisory to say engine oil level low

@@vx4716 If you look on the government website you can see the exact list of what they check. Engine oil is not one. If they did and fail you, then you could appeal. My guess is the "advisory" was them just pointing something out, but it should never have gone on the form. And, there is absolutely no requirement to check it at all. In fact if you go to the government website it specifically says "things not checked" 1. Engine 2. Clutch 3. Gearbox. Just search for "Car parts checked at an MOT - GOV.UK"

@@iggysfriend4431 yeah totally agree mate, it wasnt actually my car but i guess they were just doing it out of courtesy because low engine oil is obviously never a good thing and needs attention asap, i dont think they could/would fail a car for low engine oil

@@iggysfriend4431 its not part of the test but we have to check emissions if we blow the engine because you bring a car low of oil for a mot your goona say its our fault we can refuse to mot test your car simples

Are reverse lights an MOT failure. I have a 1993 Nissan 200sx s13 and the reverse lights have stopped working. I see on .GOV that its only compulsory on vehicles used after 2009?

It’s more likely they would drive your car during a service to ensure it’s running okay, they will rev it however for the emissions test. For brakes, they will check them such as the pads and discs.

The will check the breaks front and rear as well as the parking break. They will will check for break strength and break balance. A test drive is not part of the MOT test.
