Cool video!! I really want to start doing this some day. I can't wait for the next video that shows what to do with the specimens after they are pressed. I would love to do a collection with different plants and include images or a list of what kind of birds like to visit/eat each one.

+Because Birds That sounds awesome! I'll get going on the next video as soon as I can. Let me know how it goes if you give pressing a shot!

Super cool Claire! :) I love your content - it is always so precise and informative. My partner and I recently 'rented' some allotment space, so I think I might try pressing something as a fun thing to do alongside growing edible things. Out of curiosity - would you consider making content on how to grow vegetables / an introduction to gardening?
@BrilliantBotany8 жыл бұрын
+Draw Curiosity Let me know how it goes if you decide to try pressing! And I can absolutely add that to my future video list. Gardening isn't my strongest skill (I know how plants work, as opposed to how to make them work, haha), but I still love it, and it would be a great thing to research!

+Brilliant Botany Definitely will :) We got some allotment space so after a holiday in a week, we'll be starting out. :) I may turn it into a video on my channel if I get some footage and something knowledgeable/interesting to say. I admit I'm quite a newbie to this!

+Draw Curiosity Go for it! That would be awesome.

What's your suggestions for pressing plants with really big solid structures in them. (e.g.: sunflowers) Is it still possible to press plants like that? PS: sweet forearm tat!
@BrilliantBotany8 жыл бұрын
+Dan Heidel Great question! I've actually pressed skunk cabbage before, which is really bulky. I kept it in a basement where we happen to run humidifiers, and changed out the newspaper A LOT. So my trick was basically keeping it as dry as possible while pressing it. And applying a lot of force on the press (aka standing on it when I strap it). Thank you! It's based on the type specimen for the coastal redwood.

Thanks! I'll see just how large I can go with the pressings this summer!
