@bassresource worked great. Didn't know how well a weightless fluke worked in tall reed type grass but it was awesome action. Caught an almost 4lb, then eventually put on a weight z-man diezel minnow to punch into get more cast into the wind and pulled a 2.5lb a few minutes later

The finger on the spool technique works. I've had to do it a few times. The most memorable was the time I hooked a 14 lb carp on ultralight gear. It saved me from having the whole spool of 6 lb line stripped and getting broke off, multiple times.

Even better than putting your finger on the spool, is Back Reel... I caught a 48" Musky on 6lb test (after he tried to eat the Bass I was bringing in) I always Back Reel now! I tighten my drag Very tight so I don't have any slip when I set the hook. Then If I can tell it's a big fish I flip the back reel switch!!

I just bough a shimano reel and we went fishing saturday. As i started reeling the fish, it takes too long for fish to come to me. I got tired of reeling and the fish aint even fighting. Everything is tight as it should but still the turning(not the spool itself but line) when that happen is that normal ?? I assume i needed retie the knot at the rubber in the spool or im also assuming the rubber inside the spool is spinning. Im already have return slip on this reel but i wanna do something before i sent it. Appreciate the response

A couple questions then. If your hook's a little bent causing it to twist in the water with the bait, how come it does a twist with a baitcaster? Also when the fish is pulling the drag out of a spinning reel, you recommend putting your finger on it to slow it down. Why don't you just use the drag adjuster on the top of the real and tighten a little bit, instead of burning up your finger? OSH :-)

Even following those rules I have had line twist issues on spinning tackle, now mind you I am talking about many a hour long+ battle with sharks/rays/gar/drum but I have yet to find a way around that problem, I will say though that with spectra braided line it takes much longer before the line twist becomes an issue.
@bassresource8 жыл бұрын
+Enigma Cipher Reeling while the fish is pulling drag is a primary reason for line twist. Easy to identify, but difficult to avoid.
@Kachok808 жыл бұрын
BassResource Yeah, when you have spinner sharks peeling off 300 yards at a time you will always be wishing you could cast weightless bait with a Penn 9/0 but you really have to use a spinner for that. I wish someone could design a spinner that would rotate the bail instead of the spool for it's drag function, that would eliminate the twist issue.

Should i be worried about the line turning/spinning when using live bait, or is that a plastic bait problem? Had no idea that I shouldn't be reeling against the fish! Mind blown! Great video! My line has been super twisted and it has effected my cast and reel.
@bassresource8 жыл бұрын
Yes, it can happen with live bait too.
@Branson4fun7 жыл бұрын
add a small swivel with a leader when using live bait, you can't predict if will spin!
@mattperez36187 жыл бұрын
Edward Drew Thanks, I've only directly put the hooks on the line, but have seen the swivels and wuick break away things at the store.

I’m new to fishing and I stay in Scotland so I’m currently catching pollock and mackerel however I can’t cast far enough because of a small twist of line that’s poking out and stopping my line, any tips?
@bassresource6 жыл бұрын
Pull the line off the spool until the loop is pulled off, then reel the line back on.

I experimented one time by tying my line to a swivel, then securing the other end of the swivel to a table leg. I then started twisting the line to see when the swivel would spin. I was astonished. The swivel didn't work well. Try it.

@im_nixex20773 жыл бұрын
Let’s just say there’s a reason I’m here when I open the bail the line gets loose so u can cast I cast then close the bail but there’s loose line on the spool and it gets all under my reel and stuff and wrapped all around the bail
@im_nixex20773 жыл бұрын
Idk if it’s cause I’m new 1 hour new but idk 😂
@bassresource3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you may have over-filled the spool. Make sure it's not even with the lip of the spool. It should be about 1/8th inch below the lip of the spool.

You need to redo this video and add how to bring a fish in without twisting by using your pole to move the fish.
@jamesaritchie18 жыл бұрын
Use braid. I think it's better line for several reasons, and one of those reasons is that it doesn't twist like mono.
@jamescobrien7 жыл бұрын
James Ritchie braid twists are worse bevause when the twist knots, it's almost impossible to get undone.
@NorthernMike7 жыл бұрын
Yes but his point is valid and well known...braid does not twist as much as mono or fluoro.
@connormason79376 жыл бұрын
Mono is a must for certain baits like topwater though. I mostly use braid with flouro leader other than that

Why not just use a swivel?
@bassresource9 ай бұрын
Most bass anglers don't use swivels in bass fishing. Swivels kill the natural action of baits and collect weeds.
@zebadiahfranklin40589 ай бұрын
@bassresource I've had so many issues with twisted lines I strictly use swivels, but I'll try these tips.
