Termites can cause devastating damage to your home, and they can be difficult to get rid of. So preventing an infestation is the best course of action.
Termites need wood AND moisture to survive. So first, remove as much moisture from around your property as possible.
Next, keep vegetation back from the house. Do your best to keep mulch away from your home’s foundation and trim back any overgrown ground cover. Also do not let the soil level around your home cover the foundation.
Pick up any wood debris in your lawn like disposed lumber, fallen branches or sticks, or firewood. If you have a tree stump in the lawn, remove it.
Limit wood to soil contact by making sure that any wooden structures are not resting directly on the ground - put them on blocks, if possible. Repair or replace your wooden fence if it has taken in too much moisture and rot.
Also, use a combination of pesticides and a termite detection system.
You can use Bora-Care to help protect the wood around your property. This will help kill and prevent any termites that have reached the wood and other wood destroying insects, such as carpenter ants and powderpost beetles. Spray the Bora-Care to any nude, untreated wood. This is great for treating the wood behind your walls. Apply this if you have access to the wood before walls are put up, or during flood damage repair.
Use Reclaim IT as a trench treatment to create a lethal and repelling barrier under the ground. Reclaim IT is a powerful insecticide and termiticide that will repel termites and kill any that wonder too close. And it offers a residual of five to seven years. This will create a chemical barrier that will stop termites from coming up the exterior of your home.
Then use the Red Eye termite monitoring system. This is a unique termite monitoring and bait station that helps you check for and kill termites before they reach your home.
The benefit of this station is that you can then directly kill the termites. The dome on top also has a port that leads into the heart of the station and the termite galleries. You can spray FiPro aerosol foam into the port. This foam will expand within the station and travel through the termite tunnels directly to the termite nest. Other termite stations rely on slow-acting toxic bait to do the work, where Red Eye lets you deliver a direct kill.
Install Red Eye stations around your home about eight to ten feet apart, and five feet away from the structure.
