This episode made me laugh....since you described how my journey went when I started. I under cut everyone and slowly bump my price up slowly. Now I have a good consumer base and and now when they need a shirt or shirts on a short notice I explain the pro and cons on the price and the competitors. They usually (90%) stay with me on the price even if it’s more than the competitors(short notice). YES.....5 yard(15ft) roll or bigger is the way to go, in addition maximum your cut spacing so you don’t have a lot of waste. I try to save as much usable scrap as possible so when you get those orders that just need an additional color in a small place. I can either charge extra or just tell them....”I’ll just throw this in” to bring them back as a repeat customer.

Whats better profit margins, starting out.... using heat transfer paper, for both light dark colored shirts, but just buying dark colored paper and a cricket, or silhouette cameo to print out and have the self weeding done for you. OR Buying that expert 24 & the vinyl? They both can produce great quality but the first 2 options allows for multi color prints without a white background, just not as big and the vinyl cutters only offer 1 color, but you have to weed it. (Yes I know you can technically do more than 1 color using vinyl cutters but I'm not trying to offer every option possible and looking for quick sales charging around $30 for texts or 1 - 3 colors for heat pressed paper with the self weeding from the top 2 options listed above AT MOST) & 1 color for the vinyl cutter. I know that works however I just never worked with the first 2 options yet
@BigBrandoh4 жыл бұрын
i personally dont like the quality of print from your top two options. but thats just my own personal opinion. print quality to me is more important than convenience. i say this because i pride myself on gaining return customers. so i try to be fair and provide a quality product at a fair price to keep the business long term. so all my custom shirts are done with vinyl. anything more than 2 colors i outsource to a dtg printer.

And this is why I STOPPED🛑 doing personalized orders. Customers are too picky and it takes too much time. I have my designs with text (quotes) that I can customized the color of the vinyl. Plus I can pre-weed and just stamp on when ready‼️

Thoughts on screen printing vs htv? I'm interested in started screen printing. Thank you
@BigBrandoh3 жыл бұрын
both are good but both have 2 different needs. if you have the space to screen print, go for it. area to print, wash out screens, area to burn screens and store them, pressure washer to knock out the emulsion, conceyor belt dryer to cure the ink and some where to store inks.htv requires a cutter and a heat press.

Hello. New to T shirt making. I was wondering, I use a printer to print out my pictures to iron on shirt, do I or should I charge for the ink I use to print out picture and if I should, how do I price it? Thank you
@BigBrandoh3 жыл бұрын
yes you should. break down how much you pay for the ink, figure out how many prints you can get off of a new cartridge, how much you pay for paper. all that should be charged to the customer

Do you got any old silk screen machines you want to give a way to a good home 😉 lol or better yet if you dont got anyone old ones laying around whats the best most inexpensive silk screen machine would you recommend?
@BigBrandoh3 жыл бұрын
i dont have any screen print equipment. you can find used stuff on craigslist or offerup. but look into dryers. thats what matters. conveyor belt dryers and flash dryers. curing the ink properly is the most important part

My lady normally does the 3 part breakdown. She figures what the cost to make the item then she times it hy 3. 1 part for cost 1 part for the business I part for her labor. So if it cost $6 to make a shirt she charges $18. Normally. Now doing 50 shirts with transfers she prices different
