to help the people pleasers - if you were to not add a profit to your total, you/your business would be breaking even. you would make enough money to cover the materials and to cover the creation of the products (you’re covering what it costs to pay someone (you lol) to craft the items), but nothing more. every business needs a profit to be able to grow and to be able to fund normal business expenses. you should absolutely factor in a profit for yourself!!

i've thought about selling hand knit or crochet things because family members say I should. Don't get me wrong, it seems like THE BEST JOB EVER But... my favorite thing to knit is socks. The average pair of fingering weight socks for me (I wear a women's 8 shoe) takes about 4 days at best. Like a total of at least 20 hours + the average cost of the yarn I use is $28 a skein. With getting paid about what I make in my normal job, that would mean a sock my size would cost someone at least like $430.... No way.... I would never

I cannot agree with you enough about starting now. Dont wait to open your shop, do craft fairs, start your business, etc. I am 37 and have been crocheting for about 25 years now. I wish i had started selling my stuff sooner. Do it. Dont wait. ❤ I am just now taking a legitimate approach to starting my own business. Dont be like me! Lol. * Also this is super great and helpful info. I loved the segment about pricing and the math and thought process that went into and also about not selling yourself short. Off to hit the subscribe button! ❤

Thank you, because virtually no-one will give this information in a comprehensive, step by step way! Pricing information is the hardest thing to find.

Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and experience on pricing and running things in general. It is nice to have it broken down so neatly with the hows and whys attached. Have a great day!

Instead of track the number of hours things take, I calculated how many stitches I can make in an hour and I charge by the stitch to get the hourly rate I want. That way as I get faster and more skilled my hourly rate goes UP. Also I can quote a price for any pattern BEFORE I make it. Just calculate the number of stitches. Specialty stitches get their own pricing.

I'm dyslexic mainly in maths (dyscalculia - prob not spelt it right, lol the irony!) and I've always struggled to understand how this works as people make it super complicated, the way you explained it really sunk in and I understood it. I like the way you said don't think you're not good enough etc get that out of your head because honestly I have this so much! I'm hoping to one day sell my things so I like to learn as much as I can! This is an amazing vid thank you.

I'm a massive people pleaser and I want everyone to be able to afford the stuff I make. A candle (3 eyed cat) weighs around 200g, and the material costs are around 4-6 euros per candle. I sell them for 15, and that's only because mom told me to. My og price was 10 euros... For crochet things, since it's so much more time consuming, it's a bit more pricey. A bandana (30 rows, I use thin yarn) is 8-10 euros. The material costs are like 2 euros, but I can make max 1 per day. Face scrubbies are 9 for 4, my og price was 5 for 3. Earrings are basically less than 3 euros to make (the yarn is cheap and so are the earring part + the jump rings), but they're difficult to make, so they're 4-15 euros. The 15 euro ones are intricate snd have chains etc. My prices would be about half cheaper, but my mom demands I make more than a few bucks per work Really good video tho!!

Thank you for this video!!!! My only other excuse is the pain crocheting causes to my wrists. How do you manage that pain?
@LennyLefebvre-qb6qxАй бұрын
I am a disabled crocheter with a lot of joint pain. I force myself to stop as soon as there is pain (easier said than done). If my crochet sessions are too short or I can’t fit many in one day, I take a break for a week. I have tried three different compression sleeves and wear the two that work best one on top of another. Lastly I try to manage my inflammation through my doctor’s recommendations. I’m considering starting physical therapy. Strengthening my tendons and ligaments has helped alot.

I would love to hear you talk about how to get orders on Etsy/ on your own website, I have had my Etsy store open for over a year now but only getting an order or 2 every month. Do you find most of your orders come from social media or people stumbling across your shop? I sell made to order rave wear and also some crochet pieces btw. Love your videos! 🫶🏼😁❤️

How would you include taxes. I know etsy includes theirs, but what about your own site? Do you add a sales tax? Do you need permits for certain items you can make?

I am having an issue pricing one of my items. Just based on hours spent and material cost alone, I'm over what I find others are charging for the same style item online. I am struggling to feel that charging even just a price to break even is too much, never mind adding some sort of profit to this item. I am not sure if I need to find better sources for the materials or need to make them faster, or what else can I do to bring the base cost of this item down? Thank you.
