Is transferring your pattern by hand intimidating? Maybe you are just a perfectionist and want the most impeccable lines? Well, here is your answer: PRINT ON FABRIC!
Yes! You read that right! You can print directly onto your fabric with three simple supplies.
Here is what you need:
A printer
Avery Shipping Labels (#8165)
Fabric
Directions:
Iron your fabric so it’s nice and flat
Peel the backing off the shipping label and carefully place it onto your fabric. Make sure you don’t have any wrinkles in your fabric. Cut away the excess.
Place paper/fabric combo into your printer (fabric side down, unless your printer operates differently)
Next, prepare your pattern. Since you are printing directly onto your fabric, the outline of the pattern is NOT going to disappear. That means covering your lines is crucial. To make this a tad easier for me, I like to decrease my opacity by 50% but find your preference! 50% might be too low for some. Lowering your opacity is different on every printer/device you are using so you might need to research these instructions on your own.
You’re now all set-it’s time to print!
Once you’ve printed your pattern, you can peel the label off (and even save it to print a few more times) and start your stitching!
There you go! You’ve just printed on fabric! 🤯

Is this inkjet? Have you tried washing? Does it wash off? How do I treat the fabric because I want the prints to be permanent.

Yes, that is an inkjet printer, but I have since upgraded to a laser printer and both work great for printing patterns. I don't generally wash the fabric before embroidering nor do I wash after I have completed the hoops, but I have noticed that the patterns will fade slightly if any of it is visible after you have stitched the pattern.

Can you reuse the Avery paper? Is it just stabilizing for printing?
@Abide.embroidery

@@NYCHICLIFE I’ve been able to reuse it one or two more times! You’re right, it’s simply stabilizing the fabric so send it through the printer so as long it is still sticky and not ripped… you can use it again!

that does work but the print will look faded if doing a design. I wonder if there is a way to treat the fabric first before printing so the ink will grab it better.

That's an interesting thought! I've not come across a way to treat it, but would love to hear if you find any solutions. I have noticed the pattern can look faded with laser printers, but also don't mind that it is faded since I have an easier time covering up the lines while I embroider.

That’s the only way I have done it but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work another way. You just might have to experiment

No, it'll be permanent. So you just have to make sure you are stitching over your lines well. This is why I also like to take the opacity down 50% when printing so that I have a better chance of fully covering the lines.
