A couple of tips from the real world. Etops requirements now apply to ALL aircraft irrespective of how many engines to ensure cargo fire extinguishing and other requirements can be met. Use of route 2 is used rarely normally we just use the fix page. A huge note here and i mean huge. Etops is a flight planning exercise nothing more. Where you choose to divert to in the event of a failure is up to the crew. Frequently when etops you will have multiple diversion airfields so the choice is yours to make thecflight plan is only a document prepared to legally go on the flight. Other times like over the Pacific its a very simple choice you may only have one airport available. Oh the blue NZAA etc displays because you have that airport manually entered in the alternate page and it is “off dsplay”. Its not showing you where to go its showing you where it is in relation to where you have your nav display looking at. Good effort on the vid on a complex subject. The use of the fix page is exactly how we use it we just dont use route 2 as all it does is clutter an already cluttered display. Well done.

Eliott Cremers gday, generally yes but for situation awareness we may use others. So if fir indtance your etops limit distance is say 450nm you would use that as a guide for etops requirements. If you have an airport you know but say its not in your plan you might use a 250 ir 400nm ring again for awareness. In short for legal stuff we would use the etops book figures for situation awareness whatever works for you.

Great video but I have a question. I am trying to figure out where you got the ETOPS range for the 777-300er at 406 nm? I can't find it anywhere.
@jetPower19602 ай бұрын
I was looking also, but this is what I found. ETOPS regulations specify specific diversion time requirements for different aircraft types. For example, the Boeing 777 has an ETOPS-330 rating, which means it is certified to fly up to 330 minutes away from a suitable diversion airport. This demonstrates the aircraft’s capability to operate for more than five hours on a single engine and still safely reach an alternate airport.

Why 406 NM in the fix page? Where can I find these numbers fo other aircraft types?
@Q8Pilot5 жыл бұрын
406 is the assigned rating for the 777-300ER. You can find this information in the Boeing performance manual for 777. Some flight planning tools have it as well.

Its still handy to use the route page if you are doing anything with ETOPS 180 and above. The rings can't be displayed for more than 640nm on the ND. You'll be doing a lot of knob twisting on the EFIS in PLN display mode to figure out where you are in time and space. The route page method displays the direction of your programmed ETOPS airports on the ND without doing all the extra knob twisting. Most pilots in real life, fly ETOPS 180 or less anyway, so the rings only are more suitable for them.

Even easier and in actual real life are floating waypoints on rte1 for eep, etc, and exp. Rte2 is route copied always.

@@noahduf7441 To answer your previous question "how to know the ETOPS range... " Its not a distance range its time based range. ETOPS 180 means that aircraft can fly for 180mins under some operational qualification( won't dive into too much details but its mostly based on single engine cruise speed ) to any alternate that is suitable for that aircraft. To know the size of the range ring, just go with the assumption that a 777 travels about 500miles/hr , so if you are using ETOPS 180, that means 180minutes (which is equal to 3 hours) and your fix ring should be about 1500 nautical miles wide. Also, there is no point to put rings around the ETP (Equal Time Point) its not a destination its just a reference point.

@azegulstarrider96755 жыл бұрын
@@Q8Pilot The 207 originally came from the US airlines. Other authorities thought that 207 mins was too long to be flying with a fire (Possibly suppressed) in the cargo hold. But you're right, at the end of the day it's just a random number to make it look like there is some science behind it. After all, SAFETY First.....
