OMG! We bought our Dad a Samsung to replace the Sony in his bedroom. I was on the phone twenty minutes with the Xfinity tech support and they weren't able to provide me with the correct code. I can attest that this worked for my TCL S425 TV! I simply turned on the TV with the Roku remote it came with, then began following the instructions. The TV turned off after about 6 presses of the Channel Up button. (Not sure whether that will apply to all identical TCL TVs with the XR11 remote.) You can skip the first 2:26 of the video. My remote can now control the volume, inputs, and power.

It was the same for me. Try typing 981 instead of 991 (after you complete that first 991 step) and once I pressed the channel button up three times it started changing the channel and the xfinity button completely worked.

Didn't work for my LG tv that's only 2 years old. 😭 I pushed and held "setup" 'til light turned green... Pushed 991 (981 did NOT work for me, as someone posted, only 991). Clicked "channel up" between 325 and 350 times. (I did it several times, and have a bit of OCD, so yes, I counted, lol.) Every time, it eventually timed out and started to actually change the channel. Thanks for the vid. I'm glad it worked for everyone else.

Your instructions are wonderful. Thanks for going over it twice. Imagine my joy and relief when the very first time I touched channel up, the TV turned off. I got an XR2 remote today and went through about 10 different numbers for Sony. None of them worked except one that would turn tv off but not on. Called support and they suggested getting new remote. I found this video, tried it, and the first time I pressed up channel it turned TV off! Power on, input, volume all work now! THANKS!!

First, thank you. After first attempting to try your programming process and noting the red/green light not illuminating, I changed the batteries in my remote. First problem, "fixed". Still, my remote lost its pairing as a result of the batteries dying, so I pressed forward with your process. I actually had to use your programming method about six or seven times because the on/off, volume, channel and mute commands did not program with the rest of the remote. The TV would only recognize my other remote for those commands. So I just repeated the process whether the TV was on or off, probably five or six more times. Then finally 100% of my remote responded. Second, by the time I found your video I was pretty frustrated. I appreciate the fact that your video is only five minutes in length; but, the first two minutes of your instruction video was agony for me to sit through as these remotes are typically set up by the cable provider and the pamphlet with the codes are long since filed. The reason for my lengthy comment is because 1) people may not realize the reason their remote ceased functioning is because the batteries are dead; and, 2) the remote program can fail for whatever reason and/or more than one attempt may be required to fully program the remote. Still I appreciate your content. Thank you.

It’s setup, 991, then ch up until the tv goes off, then hit setup again. RCA and JVCs usually can’t pair with the x1 remote.

So this method isn’t only good if you don’t have code but also if have trouble pairing tv and reliever, I had codes and spent a hour on phone with Comcast then they sent me a new remote which didn’t resolve the problem . I used this to pair tv then used 992 for receiver problem solved. Thanks
