At first ;the bottle must be cut from top to bottom from 2 sides at once. then pour the soil into halves and connect them on the stem of the plant you want to root. then you can wrap it with cellophane film. after the plant make root, you Separate the halves of the bottles and it will not be damaged roots . and the clod of soil will remain entirely together with the roots

Hello, Jerry. I can appreciate your spirit to experiment. I am trying my hand at propagating this year. How did it go with your cuttings on the black diamond?

I’m trying to grow purple Crape Myrtle cuttings inside a covered water bottle in full shade - another method I saw on KZbin. No roots in almost 2 weeks. It looks like your’s are in part sun but idk. Any suggestions? Thanks!
@jerryodell11923 жыл бұрын
Mine get morning sun. I started mine in fall, everything going well. If you go milk jug route , try holes in bottom, and put jug in saucer of water. Bottom watering. 2nd time asked this. I will try mid summer prop. And make vids. Thank You for comment Hope you joined me. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

PS: these trees love heat and sun. 👍

Thanks. I’ll try those methods and morning sun. I have a green thumb except when it comes to rooting cuttings. Currently trying Myrtles, Butterfly bush, Sanseveria and Yucca gloriosa since early July. No luck yet. I’d be lost without YT. Thanks!🤞

@@jerryodell1192 I am learning from KZbinrs like you. If you don’t mind me posting a link, this is where I learned the water bottle cutting propagation method that I’m trying with ‘Sunset Magic’ Crape Myrtles and Butterfly bush cuttings. If I have any overwhelming successes perhaps I’ll make my own videos. So far just minimal new growth on both. Thanks! kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5PIeGehn5Z5paM

Question 👋 Do the propagated Crape Myrtle cuttings have to be in a bag or dome to cause humidity, or can they grow without a bag?
@jerryodell1192 Жыл бұрын
Mine are still in the pot to this day and doing just fine. I’ve never bagged or put in a dome I try to do stuff as cheap as possible Lol

When is the best time to do this?
@jerryodell1192 Жыл бұрын
Division is best in the fall Cuttings seem to do best during their growing season . Summer is when they thrive just like garden phlox. These things go dormant in the cold, so get as many roots as you can before that.
