Liz that is a great technique! I've never used fishing line - just chopped with a knife. This way looks more efficient and saves more of the plant.

Thanks liz, I want to do some chopping of mine soon. I just covered my plants in the ground with shade cloth for the summer as it's expected to be 40 on Friday (urgh). When I was setting up the shade cloth I noticed soo much growth since winter.. I really haven't touched them at all or spent any time on them.. I do need a can of beer for slugs and snails though!!

My bluebird leaves still have not produced roots! It's been a little over four months LOL! Remember I was telling you that my bluebird rotted? Yeah my leaves still have not popped any Roots out but I was able to save the very tippy tippy top of the head, and I mean very tippy top like little teeny eenie weenie New growth top and that finally sprouted some Roots so I'm hoping to get something from that. I watched Tanya's video the other day where she had chopped some of hers and I told her I was going to do my pvn but I chickened out LOL. Mine doesn't seem like it went dormant because I brought them inside so early so do you think it will be safe for me to do the pvn? Trust me it's very dramatic when it's thirsty and I've been watering it twice a month since I brought them in in the middle of September. Please keep me posted on the leaf propagation for this plant!!! I can't wait to see the next video because I have a feeling I do my potting up all wrong when I get plant mail 😩

I might be able to answer some of your question on the next video. With Echeveria, I find that they have very little/short period of dormancy. Maybe in tropical places, they don't go dormant at all. The sprouted 3 pots of blue birds were chopped in winter.

Hi Liz. Thank you for this video. I love seeing different videos how ppl do their beheading. I actually done this method with my topsy-turvy but I didn't do a good job. All the bottom leaves fall off. Don't know why, maybe cut too much into it. Anyway after that I'm not tried again. So I used a knife for my second attempt. Also not sure if my fishing line was too thick or is it too thin? Anyway I struggle with using the fishing line. Maybe I will try again with a stem not too thick too cut.

I like headchopping. I sometimes take a secound bottom row of leaves first to make more rooms, then cut with fishing thread or scissors. In this way, I lose less leaves and get more for propagation。

I will treat all of them as if they have no roots and just stem. As long as they've been calloused off (leave to dry for a couple of hours), I would plant them in a succulent and cactus mix, then water when the soil dries up. 🥰

Liz! OMG I just found a ton of black tourmaline!!!!! I was busting up some decomposed granite and not decomposed granite I use that as top dressing but I use the decomposed granite in my soil mix, and I saw a big boulder that I had put in the corner of the garage so I went to work on that one and oh my good lord! it is full of black tourmaline the chunks are just falling out. They are not that big, but still! I will gather them all together and put them next to my bed to keep bed energy away and away from my succulents 😄😄 Thank you so much for igniting this spark inside of me I am so in love with these rocks and all the minerals and crystals and everything I find inside of them! Btw, I have two buckets of Mica LOL one for big chunks and one for little chunks hahaha

Black tourmaline crystal are one of my favorite crystal. Congratulation on your lucky find. You are so lucky. If I find that in my property...I'll bulldozed the whole area to try and fund more. LOL

It's weird because we have these big rocks that look like they are discarded cement mixed with black gravel Pebbles and those are the ones with all the tourmaline in it. I went to great lengths to make sure that I identified it correctly and yes even though they are small and I haven't been able to get out a whole piece yet intact it's definitely black tourmaline I'm so excited!!

Rose cabbage/Imbricata are very easy to grow. What they don't like is too much pampering and over watering. Water only pag malambot na ang bottom leaves.

I don't water the leaves unless they have roots. If grown on coconut coir/peat, I water them when the soil is dry. From everyday to 3 or 4 times a week depending on how much humidity is in the air.

Some do as long as it's a mature stem with nodes. It also depends on the plant but I've grown many echeveria on bare stem with roots that the leaves have rotted.

Hi Liz, I have a question for u: I finally decided to head chop some of my sucs that were not growing pups nor the leaves were producing babies. Now they have grown some babies around the top. I'd like to know when and how to remove those from the stem. I also have a quite large and prolific E. Topsy Turvy that has not neen headchopped, but has produced tons of pups on the stem, they seem like crested fot the amount of them in a tiny space, What should I do with them? should I remove some of them to make them grow bigger or leave them be? The best time to harvest them is when they start growing roots on the side or when the plant is big enough to form some nodes. Topsy turvy is very hardy plant and can be separated, let dry and plant and it will grow. Good luck.

You can chop the head off w/o removing the pup on the side or you can also take the pup(depending how small), let it dry for a couple of days then put in soil and don't water till it root up.

Liz! I have a BEAUTIFUL top heavy PVN that I got from a big box store. It was stricken with mealies and most of its friends died. As the sole survivor, she is big(for me), leaning and on a skinny little stem. I am petrified of chopping her. Petrified.

Give the mealies a good dose of my metho spray (1 cup denatured alcohol and 1/4 water). Then put a couple of BBQ stick for support until the stem grow thicker to hold itself up. This can take a good couple of months. Good luck.

You can see the big rock with the black pieces of Tourmaline in it those little black Pebbles are the pieces of Tourmaline I've been able to get out but it's frustrating because I can't get a complete peace out. See how they are tubular? and in the background is just a little bit of the mica pieces I've been able to take out. If you look in the background you can see a big giant coffee creamer container, industrial size LOL I have two of those full of mica pieces. I'm having so much fun LOL I have a Ziploc baggie full of the black tourmaline but I wish I could find bigger pieces. I'm happy with what I have though 😊

They look like good specimen pieces that's worth more intact in the mica schist. I wouldn't be separating them from the host rock if it was me but just find some good exposed samples. The small individual black tourmaline crystals are not worth much but specimen pieces are.

There's a little creek at the end of our horse pasture and then way up in the back there's all stone boundary walls put up From the early settlers.
