I want to know how often to water them. They have been rotting
@ericapaul7989 Жыл бұрын
@@gailfriend8164 from the experience that I've had when propping, depending on humidity levels of course, for ex I live in the US in Arizona and our weather is beyond dry. We have less than 15% humidity most of the year so it's challenging to keep props with enough moisture rather than having too much. The way you can tell is, since u have had some rot, u know it's too much moisture. So usually when they are little still, a couple spritzes in the morning every day is enough and as they get bigger you may need to do deeper watering. But to start, spritz then, don't water. That's true for most of the US besides Arizona or Nevada really. The goal is not to keep them wet but rather with the minimum amount of moisture without letting the new roots get too dry and dry off. Feel the soil and if there's dampness on ur finger tips, don't water. And don't water before you see a few roots! That's the biggest thing. Cuz then they will just rot on the soil without being able to root. I don't have as much experience as this amazing guy does but I hope it helps!! Good luck!

@PK-bh1ww4 жыл бұрын
@Jamey Craig the main thing that kills succulants is too much water. Peopel who kill succs tend to water them like normal plants and that kills them. Just give them a little drink about once a month or 3 wks. They also put them in soil that's too heavy, Get soft cactus soil. The more you ignore succs the better they grow, And they ike a window sunlight. . They are easy to grow if you don't treat them like you would a geranium and drown it. Keep that in mind. :-) And they are also very easy to propagare. Whack off a leaf like he did and lay it ont he soil and aguain."ignore it" for wks. When you come back it'll have roots and maybe even a baby. Been there done that.

For years, I have been a succulent serial killer. I was determined to have, grow, and love succulents....and.....THEY DIED! All of them. At my hands. Or thumbs...sob! So, so saaad. This year, with all the time I have had on my hands (or thumbs,) (thanks covid,) I tried again. My mom had a few stragglers (Walmart specials) fighting for life in her kitchen so I took a few leaf cuttings and lay them out on soil after they healed (two months ago.) I've been thinking I am doing something wrong, not spraying enough water each morning or giving them enough light (Alberta, Canada yay!) because there has been no sign of life. Am I a baby killer now? Crying! Anyway, I thought I would look for inspiration, found your video, and want to thank you because I feel better. And lo and behold, I just looked at some of my favorite cuttings and I have growth starting! Little roots mostly, but OMG! I won't breathe on them, or look them straight in the eye, just in case they feel threatened and die on the spot. And a stump I saved after taking all of the leaves off (not enough light so very leggy,) has four babies growing!! Just a little more patience, and I'll have so many little baby succulents running around! Um...ok that's weird, eh? Many thanks again for your helpful video

Hi Thang, thank you SO much for this awesome and informative video! After watching three times, I do have a remaining question - when I remove the baby from the leaf cutting, do I need to wait until it heals like with the rosette beheading, or can I put straight in to the soil? You show all the little rooted babies in the pot, but did not specify whether you put them straight there or let them sit first. I accidentally removed it, it also had a very long stem. TBH I found the leaf with roots and a pup amongst the moss in the pot of my HUGE Ghost succulent. It has two babies already and this video inspired me to stem cut one off and take leaves off all my succulents to propagate. Thanks again!!

@@cmarlow41 normal means very little wayer. . Like just enough to dampen the top of the soil. And only about once/ month. Just spritz a bit when you transplant the baby but try not to give the baby a bath. lol Then ignore it for a month or so . Overwatering is what kills succs. I started growing them a couple yrs. ago. They sit in my kitchen window that has bright morning sunlight. I don't give them much attention and when I finally remember to check on them... they're doing fine. Babires are growing and leaves are all heathy. And soft cactus soil is better for them instead of heavy house plant soil.
