CAMERA FPS / Divided by / PROJECT FPS = (X) Multiplied by 100% 30/24 = 1.25 X 100% = 125% 60/24 = 2.5 X 100% = 250% 120/24 = 5 X 100% = 500% 300/24 = 12.5 X 100% = 1,250%

@justinburgan
@justinburgan 2 жыл бұрын
It depends, if it the audio is baked in or "linked", then yes, you are correct. It won't always be the same. UNLESS, the audio is slowed down or sped up with the clip. Audio is recorded around the 48khz which it doesn't matter what timeline you are in (24,30,60fps) what does matter is if you slow down the audio while it's sync. As long as your audio is trimmed / sync'd to the clips length. It should match correctly. Slating and timecode will help solve this issue as well. Anything off speed however typically doesn't pair well and calls for sound design or more attention. Hope this helps!

Wassup Justin, I appreciate your informative content! It’s helped me a lot. However, I am having an issue and I’m hoping you can help me out. I shoot hunting videos wearing a gopro filming at 1080 and 60fps. I film at 60 because it seems to reduce the motion blurr when I’m looking around and such. My problem is, when I create a 24fps timeline and convert all my footage to 24fps, the motion blur is pretty bad on my video when in the timeline. Idk if I should maybe create a timeline with a higher fps? Or is there something with shutter speed? I’m not sure and hoping you could help me out. I’m just trying figure out how I can make smooth looking action content. Thanks for any help bud!
@justinburgan
@justinburgan Жыл бұрын
Hey dude, sick! Love hunting content. Have filmed a few hunts myself. You're correct on 60fps lessening the motion blur. Film buffs will want to say 24fps feels more pleasing to the eye, which it is. However, 60fps will allow you to capture more detail, hence being able to slow it down and retaining detail. It's a preference thing. So, a few things here. First, the GoPro might you're main problem here. Especially if it's on auto. Take a look into shutter speed and play around with it. Typically you'll want to shoot at 1/120 or 1/125 when shooting 60fps. This ensures fluidity in the shot. Sometimes GoPros will under/over cranking shutter speeds based on the light it reads. Which in return doesn't give you a consistent look. You can solve this by using ND filters on the camera. Abe Kislevitz is the go to on all things GoPro. He lays out some really good settings. You could try creating a 60fps timeline as well and NOT transforming your footage. This might also be a look you are trying to go for. Test around and have fun with it. Hope it goes well. Feel free to comment back with any more questions. Good luck on the stalks. Cheers, JB

Thanks so much! Also wanted to ask if you could make an infographic or a metaphorical analogy so I could better understand frame rate. Here are ideas that idk might not be useful but I have these Qs anyway and maybe could help Why are different iPhone videos taken one after another showing slightly different frame rate (59.96 and then 60.02)? Is this because of lighting conditions and the Camera app algorithm? Why does Premiere use 24 frames per second as a default? How does speeding up a clip to 125% work technically? I found this cool article "What's the difference between 59.94fps and 60fps?" on tv technology and maybe you could explain some of it? Just in general, what are the fundamental principles of film so I can have first-principles thinking mindset towards filmmaking in general, all aspects. THANK YOU

@@AdilShahOfficial if there's a lot of motion on the shot with an overcranked shutter, it will look choppy. Do you have to play the clip back in real time? Maybe leave it 100% instead of speeding it up to 125%.. this will slow down the footage and maybe "clean" it up a bit. If not, i'd look into some motion blur software or a plugin. Maybe find one in AE? The gopro plugin found on there website is pretty good as well! Warp stabilizer may also give it a "cleaner" look. @justinburgan

Yes, you should make all your footage the same fps to make them congruent. Be sure to make sure your footage fps matches your project timeline fps. You do this because you want your footage to look the same when it renders out. If you don't do this, a multitude of things could go wrong such as drop frames, render issues, etc.

After you interpret the footage can you then speed it up and slow it down to whatever you want, or will that then affect the frame rate?
@justinburgan
@justinburgan 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, so once you interpret your footage, your footage will be slow down based on the difference of your project timeline vs what your footage was shot in. (See the breakdown in the comments) you will then have to adjust your speed duration (can also do this with time re-mapping) to get it back to real time OR you can leave it slowed by leaving it at 100%. Lastly, as long as your shutter speed was double your fps while shooting, you should not have any weird looking footage. If you slow your footage down too much, it will skip or drop frame because those frames do not exist. Cheers!

I am new to this and have a real film nightmare on my hands. I recently found lost film shot back in the 1960's in my basement that flooded. The film was boxed and in cans so no water damage. Most of the film looks as good as when it was shot. Some of the film is regular 8mm 16fps. silent/no sound, some is super 8mm 24fps Sound on mag stripe and some is 16mm Crystal Synch 24 fps.MOS. (Sound recorded on casette) using in synch recorder This film was shot when I was much younger to make a feature horror film that was never finished then stored away when I moved and lost for over 50 years. So now that it is found I decided to try to finsh the movie. I transferred the 8mm and Super 8mm film using my Wolverine Moviemaker Pro to the chip it uses and the 16mm film was transferred by being projected and filmed by a digital video camera. I have all the films on a digital chip now. Pinnacle Studio 15 is my editing program. How would you deal with something like this. My goal is to combine all 3 film types into a flowing movie.
@justinburgan
@justinburgan 3 жыл бұрын
sorry for the late reply, didn't see this comment come thru. you could go two ways here in my opinion: 1, make the project 24fps and intrepret the 16fps to 24fps and then instead of speeding it up like this tutorial, you'd slow it down to get back to real time. this might work. you could always leave it at 16fps and make it feel artistic, but i dont know if that's what you want to go for.

@@justinburgan let's say for an example I shot on 50 fps and working on a 25fps, I imported the clips in a bin and interpreted the footage to 25fps so right now the footage is slowed down automatically to 50%( it's not in real time) but just to make it real time I do the step you suggest speed change( the reason why make all clips to real time is so I can use the clip however I want according to my project needs, I use some clips in real time and some in slow motion ( I do change the speed of the particulars clips again to my desire when in my timeline) and this worked well, but from last 2 time's it's not working properly, when I preview the footage in source monitor or timeline after doing both of the steps, it's not playing smoothly, it's choppy, And am using 180° shutter speed rule too, don't know why It's happening with me!

@@thelostwolfsjourney3136 ahh, is it choppy after render/export? 1/100th should be the appropriate shutter here. Hmmm, I'm not sure what's going on here.

@@justinburgan nope it's not choppy after export, I figured out, I selected the particular clip In&out and rendered the selection whenever I make a change in the speed, somehow it worked perfectly but it's one more extra step in the workflow now.

PLEASE HELP: can anyone explain to my why my exported videos are being exported in slow motion? I just need it to be exported in regular speed. I’m not sure if it’s my timeline sequence, or if it’s because of how it was shot originally. And links, articles or explanations would help!

All the footage I receive from the agency is shot on 59.94 fps. What should be the frame rate for my timeline to edit ?

You should ask what their final intended deliverable needs to be.

I see one nasty little problem. If I interpret the footage then import it to my timeline I have to edit in slow motion which takes a huge amount of time. Is there any way to fix this? I heard its easier to work with speed/duration and change the speed manually.
@justinburgan

Yeah, do this as a batch speed duration with all the clips selected. If you know you want off speed footage for a select group of clips, dont set the speed duration and do it manually for speed ramps.
