That white trim in the screw channels is to protect the screws and help with keeping out water. You should replace it along with all the rusted screws.

Just for future projects, you can also use a rubber wheel that fits in a drill to remove the old decals.. works great!!

I would definitely keep the trim and the tire trim as well. I agree with others that they're there to protect and you could definitely find replacements that look brand new and newly white too! But honestly this makes me want to get a camper and redo it. Thanks for the videos!

Replace the fenders too. It looks unfinished without them, especially because the siding is held down by all those rusted staples and screws.

I just bought an old camper too. I know this is after the fact but saw where people were using a heat gun to take off the stickers. I still have to do this on mine....so if that doesn't work, looks like I'll be sanding too...bummer! Good luck to you guys with the rest of your reno.

If you don't have an awning blowing rain will follow you in the door. Just a couple of tips. Ours has that same step & it can be slick in the mornings with dew or on rainy days. Be careful stepping out because it's easy to hit it just right & have your foot slip right out from under you. Also, if you don't have one yet a roll out mat will keep a lot of trash out of the camper. We have one the size of our awning, so we can sit under it & not get trash on our shoes to take back inside.

You might not like the wheel well covers but they serve a “VERY IMPORTANT PURPOSE“. THEY PREVENT ROCKS FROM FLIPPING UP & DAMAGING CARS & TRUCKS AROUND & BEHIND YOU WHILE YOUR DRIVING. THERE ARE OTHER AFTERMARKET WHEEL TRIM THATS NOT SO BOXY. GET SOMETHING WITH SOFTER ROUND LINES.

I am loving your process. I am wondering if you would do it again. We bought the exact same camper and gutted it. We left it for the summer because it was too hot. It seems like soo much work. Just wondering if it would be better to get one that doesn't need a total re do or just go for it and enjoy the process.
@OurLittleNest4 жыл бұрын
I would do it again! If you are really handy I would recommend going forward with it, if you would need to look up how to do a lot of the work it could get very tedious!

On the draw bar, once sanded, I am going to try coating mine, with oil, (the oil soaks into the metal and dries) using as a rust/primer and then paint it. This has worked on other projects. Anyone tried this?

The original sealer was not done poorly. That stuff expands and contracts with heat and cold and moves. This was not poor workmanship, but simply time.

Taking decals/stickers off of glass??? Always start with a razor blade, not a screwdriver! Single-edged blades (be careful) or go to the automotive store and get a head gasket scraper. Will do the job much easier.

Washing a trailer Is not prepping it to be repainted... 🤔😮😮😮 no paint stripping/clear coat stripping? No sanding ? 😐 it's just going too peel in 2-5 years.. unless you're not in Canada and are in a southern state with fairly average temps
@laurieschaeffer11623 жыл бұрын
I can't believe you destroyed classic parts on the camper. Many people pay top dollar for vintage parts to restore their classic campers. I really suggest replacing the fenders and awning. A tire blow out on and rv will cause damage. Water is not a friend to an rv. Without an awning, you're asking for water damage.
