I painted 5 feet of chain to let me know when the anchor is just above the water line. That way I can know when to bump the switch and get the anchor nicely in the roller. There have been times where a stiff wind was blowing us toward the bank and I knew that I could safely use the throttle to hold our position without fouling the prop after seeing the painted section.

Did I miss it? Most windlass failures I know come from recovering the anchor. Shouldn't that be included in your video?

is there a shear pin on the drive of the vert. windlass mine just runs free and will not turn the reel

I have a 46 sea ray with 1500 vert. windlass and the motor runs when you push the button but does not turn reel , i tightened the clutch on top but still just runs free wheel
