I used to work in a library so I learned to be careful handling books and magazines. One thing I do is put on finger cots on my thumb, index finger and middle finger so I don't get fingerprints on the books. You could use cotton or latex gloves but the full latex gloves get sweaty. I'll slip the board into the bag half way then slide the book in so the backing board supports it while it's going in. I also never handle the books by the spine side.

Try not using tape w/ comic bags & Acid FREE boards (of course). Just fold the flap back into the bag over the board, use A gift card ot playing card to flatten the flap- than crease it. You would be suprised how well this works!

Some other ideas for organizing that I plan to use. A check sheet for each title. I can't afford the art boxes so I print out characters on paper and use that to decorate the boxes and to tell what is inside the box. I made a template for dividers and cut them out of boxes I get Amazon shipments in. I also take cardboard to put inside each end of the box to support the first and last comics as well as take any damage that might come through the hand cutouts. After taping close more than 9,000 comic bags I've come to the conclusion that self sealed bags are better.

Very useful and smart advice. The tough part of comic book collecting is knowing in what box you have a specific comic book. I have 20 short boxes and sometimes it is a hassle looking for a book. Nice video, buddy.

😅 This was another one I had to watch.. an believe me, I’ll be rewatching! I should mention that my Blu-ray collection is a labour of love for the past 21 years! And storage has now become an issue!!😅 point been my goal is to have a comic collection of similar proportion an my head was already goin to: hows the proper way to store an keep em safe for longevity !! 😊 - thanks, I’m learning a lot !👊🏽

I just got back into comica recently. Haven't purchased since the 90s. This is very good beginner advice. I do the same except I also use plastic top loaders for added protection for comics I plan to get graded.

Great video! Even as a somewhat seasoned collector I got to learn a couple tricks. Would just like to add, getting omnibuses (omnibi?) simplifies collecting comics a lot. Definitely recommended.

Good advice. I remember exactly when my limited Wolverine #1 was damaged. It is was bought off the newsstand when it came out and was in high condition at the time but now mid to low grade. But comic bags and boards were fairly new in my area at the time.

I use Silver Age sized bag & boards for most of my comics. Especially those I know I won't be opening often. For the rest I use Removable Color Coding Labels which are just a better version of painters tape.

Go up to the counter when you enter an LCS and asks for the needed bags and boards for example if you are going to buy 10 comics ask for 10 bags & boards. As you are shopping you are actively sleeving your comics helping to prevent further damage or spine ticks as you continue to browse the store.

I was just curious how people organise comics. Good video, I like your style. I just shelve em. Single issues on one shelf, Pocketbooks on one, then volumes, and then the gigantic hard covers on the last. I didnt have any problems with my comics getting bumping, chipping or any sort of damage. BUT I do have an issue of my single issues getting damaged. Around 20% of my single issues have been damaged in some way. It's not a hassle for me. I don't buy comics to sell em, I do it to read em. And all of em are readable (so far). If I don't want a certain set of comics in my collection, I just donate em or give em away to kids who I know will cherish these stories. Cheers.

CLZ is great mine stopped loading new books after 657. Strange. Great video. I need the dividers. I like painters tape. It holds the plastic flap and doesn’t stick to comic covers 😊

Other #TIPS being; Only use Acid-Free boards! Trust me. Also, Always Stack your loose comics (like at the store esp.) w/ every second comic up-side down. So all the spines & staples are equal on both sides. Same goes for putting whole storylines of comics in the same bag (which I do), stack every second comic up-side down. Another tip; *Don't use tape!* Just fold the flap back into the bag over the board, than crease it. You would be suprised how well this works! > The only time I use tape, is for juicy books (1st appearences & etc.), Which I put into A Mylar, Mylean or Mylin without A board. Than I will put that comic into its own silver-age or golden-age bag w/ an acid free board. Thus the comic is double protected! So if someone wants to look at it for purchase or whatever; they can pull it out the bag & board- but it still remains protected in the mylean. And this way the customer can examine both sides of the book; while it remains protected. Comics stack up Fast !!! So to help $ave money; When your at Walmart go over to them Cereal pallets (or the foam cup boxes)- an look for A brown _Wheaties_ box case (usually an 8 or 10 pack case brown box). Just take the cereal boxes out of the box & leave them on the pallet (or stack them on the shelf). Then grab the case box, and fill it w/ whatever your buying. Then after you check-out, put your stuff back into the _Wheaties_ case box. Walmart doesn't care, its one less box they have to dispose of. Bring it home an use it for your comics. Im at the point where I rarely even use bags & boards anymore. The high majority stay standard LCS store bagged by title (10 to 15 comics per bag), and then I put that into A Walmart box.

Great Video...good info. Curious if anyone else had a problem with boards not fitting into the bag? Once in a while when I buy a pack of the modern 100 pc bag and the boards I get maybe 2 or 5 boards that don't fit in the bag.

Good information. I have been using tape for bags and boards over the years. But to each their own. 👍🏾

I don't think there's anything wrong with tape. I've just had too many experiences where I accidentally get tape on the cover of a book.

Hey! I just had a quick question, so my uncle has passed down all of his comic books to me and it is over 150, I don’t know if I should bag and board all of them, they aren’t rare or anything they are recents so I was just wondering if I should use bags and boards on them or use them for more rare books? What would you do? Thanks!
@comicsaredope2 жыл бұрын
I bag and board everything. It's just for my peace of mind, even if I never sell them. You can get 200 bags and boards on amazon for like $40.

@@comicsaredope gotcha, and one last question, would my books get damaged or anything if I just put them in the storage box without bags or boards like just leave them standing up?

Have you ever used Envypak bags, those color coded ones. So I bought ton of those when I first started, I am 150 deep and they're all in those bags but trying to see if I should switch to mylar or whatever.

Propriatate! Should be a word! Nice video. Stressing over my large art and oversized graphic novels. They don't fit in my small bookshelf but I have too many to stack horizontally and not impact the spines. Eventually I'll just have to buy a taller book shelf. For now I guess I'll put them on their spines? Does that sound safe enough? Idk
