I would also advise acid free labels instead of tape on your Mylar bags. The other benefit to that is you can write on the labels things like what you paid for the comic or when you put the book in the Mylar bag. Archival ink pens are also available. I use a Pigma Graphic 1 pen.

I recommend using mylar bags only for "special comics", and just use poly bags for everything else.

1 more tip, you should keep them off the ground, especially if they are in your basement. You don't want to risk a small flood leaking water into your box damaging your comics. I keep mine on a small, stable shelf in my closet

I know bags and boards have to change every 3-5 years, but how long do the Mylar bags last for?
@spongemario42056 жыл бұрын
Austin Yanover as long as the Mylar bag is undamaged it will last forever

The comics in his box are slanted, that can damage them aswell. They need to be propped up

What are the benefits of putting the backing board in the middle of the comic vs. behind the comic? Thanks.
@vincentdeguard47269 жыл бұрын
Ian Hollis Would say putting the board in the middle is a bad idea as it will creat a "bulge" in the comic...i.e not remain flat, also does not protect the spine of the comic.
@arturo.arreola7 жыл бұрын
Vincent de Guard I agree putting the board inside the comic messes up the spine. It's better not to have anything inside your comics not even a bookmark while it's stored.

Thank you for telling me what possibilities I have when saving my most precious comics from ruining themselves more than when I bought them. I had know idea I could do more than use plastic sleeves and had no idea that they had made some only for comic use. Buy the way ***** is it a problem to put your comics besides an air conditioner if it's dark? Is there a way to read my comics without touching them?
@vincentdeguard47269 жыл бұрын
regishel Reading comics without touching them can be achieved by using "inert" gloves...like those used in museums.

Or you can just say forget the bagging and backing unless you believe a comic that has just hit the stands is going to be worth a fortune owing to a movie or something and just oh I don't know read and enjoy them (a historic comic like Action Comics #1 or Detective Comics #27, Captain America #1 or Amazing Fantasy #15 I could understand they have value because well first appearences of Superman, Batman, Captain America and Spider-Man and very few orginals are left)

Got too many as it is and still collecting, though really...it depends upon the woman you're feeding. Best be deep into a chick if going to cash in those leftover first edition Spiderman comics. The worst dissapointment when it came to investing in future junk was baseball cards. I now have 2 shoe boxes full of scrap cardboard I've been encouraged by my friends to " just hold onto them longer"...damn steroid popping idiots ruined everything with that and their constant strikes for better pay.

( continued from comment) You know what's really depressing ? Going to a Dollar general store and seeing 10 of your old comics in mint condition sold for 5 bucks. I mean it's good for nostalgiac purposes, but no resale value. Can't beat having a good job to help pay for an expensive meal. If solely depend on comics, it'll only keep you looking for more and they can't keep up with the bills no matter how many you save.

of course, but so was I. Still though, it sucks how bad the market gets at times. Alot of mine i refuse to sell due to nostalgia or info and art I don't want to part with, though most fo it I can just assume part with and get a finanacial boost now and then...if at all possible.
