We have had luck tying burlap ( so that it folds and hangs on itself) around the trunk. They crawl up inside and get trapped. Then we collect them and dispatch them to hell.

So when you say so that it folds and hangs on itself, are you saying to twist it kind of as you wrap it around?

@@szatkown You can twist a bit but it should stay together if wrapped tightly.

@@dominasagway The burlap hangs about at the midpoint along the rope or twine which is looped horizontally around the trunk. The idea is descending varmints can get by the barrier (you don't want them heading back up) but when they ascend they get trapped between the folds. It's not perfect but we are getting tons. Disgusting bastards.
