How To Prune a Mexican Fan Palm Tree

I have a pair of Washingtonia Robustus in my yard and I didn't know how to prune them. When I learned how, I decided to make a video and have some fun with time lapse. I hope you enjoy it.

A hand held razor blade. Like a box cutter type works best. But be carefull. Super Sharp.

Here in So. Az, scorpions and other beasties love to make a home in the palm fronds and all that netting stuff. I am definitely going to give my palm a shave. I do wish you had one slowed-down moment to show the cut up close. Thanks.

The skin probably protects the tree from insects, weather, and other damage, and helps hold moisture.

Hello ... I have 2 small Mexican fan palms that are about 2 months planted .. here in Texas ... it’s still about 55 degrees over here ... they have a lot of dead pieces around the body like yours ... Do I need to prune them , or let It fall off .. I’m getting conflicting information

It was an extra blade my gardener friend gave to me. I just always thought it was a carpet or sod blade. I've seen similar at hardware stores.

They look alot better after. I've got 5 I need to do. All roughly 30 to 40 feet high. Once they start falling away from the palm(old age) they look horrible. I can imagine it helps with keeping pests out of the fronds.
