The bolt pattern of the 3 'legs' of the pump only allows for mounting in one position. You have to be careful to buy the correct orientation of the water inlet/outlet. A good addition to any power washer setup would be an in-line filter to rid of any solid contaminants that could mess with the pump internals.

Ive seen axial pumps all fail the same way, eventually water seeps through those black seals and mixes with the gear oil and turns it into a grey milky mess and it's game over.

Just a conversion note: that 22mm wrench is replaceable with a 7/8". 22mm=0.866". 7/8"=0.875". The 7/8" is .009 larger and will work on a 22mm bolt just fine. A big help if you don't have metric in sizes bigger than 19mm! Good video. My Chinese replacement pump has been acting flaky for a while now. When I replace it, and I'm sure I will have to, I'll use this guide to prolong the pump's life. Good, clean, lube is almost everything in keeping parts from wearing. Wearing = death.

Thanks, and very helpful to see how these pumps are generally constructed and put together. I have an older 2600 PSI pump which has built up some scale and corrosion over the years. Since the housing of the pump has brass parts I have found that a product like C-L-R is not recommended as it can damage the brass. Do you have a suggestion of a cleaning solution that would work on the scale build up and corrosion? Thanks

You had a 1 in 4 chance of getting it bolted back correctly. The 4 bolt pattern is square. The 3 bolt pattern on the pump head and the engine are fixed. You can clock the 4 bolts to change the direction of the hose fitting. Check and mark before unbolting it.
@michael9314 жыл бұрын
He used the 3 engine mounting bolts which are fixed. He had no choice on the mounting position. They make another version that points the other way.
@RyVonD3 жыл бұрын
He's saying that when you put the head back on the pump housing you can clock it in different directions. The guy making this video should have bolted it back on 180° than where he did so the hose connection would have faced backward instead of forward.

I read these are supposed to use straight 30 weight non-detergent oil. Is gear oil better?? I'm rebuilding an even crappier pump. The female coupler where the engine shaft slides into, the hole in the coupler goes all the way through. So you have to assemble the entire pump first, then fill it with oil, then install it on the engine without spilling the oil.... There is just a stupid rubber gasket between the top of the pump and bottom of the engine, that's all that keeps the oil in. In any case, I think I will use some synthetic gear oil like you show instead of straight 30 like I've read on several sites.
@82rotaryman2 жыл бұрын
30 weight non detergent is for the pump motor. Generally you don't ever replace the gear oil in the pump drive on these style pumps because the pumps don't last long enough for it to need changed. Therefore the manufacturer doesn't specify what's used in it. Most people's mentality is throw it away and buy a new one because they are cheap. This guy was looking to stack the cards in his favor that he could make the pump last a little longer. But the weak link on these pumps has always been the plastic check valves that they use inside the high pressure side of the pump. It's just planned obsolescence unfortunately.
@nathanield.45274 жыл бұрын
At 14:04 when you are installing the housing cover, have you ever had to change the o-ring seal that prevents the oil from leaking out of the housing? If so, where do you get it from and how do you know what size to get?
@bassntruck4 жыл бұрын
I have not had to replace that. But if you needed one just measure the width of the space and the thickness of the old one. You can find them online easily. I would error slightly smaller on the width of you come across and in-between size.

@bassntruck8 жыл бұрын
Are you asking what is the name of the first part I put in it when I started putting it back together? The first part is a bearing, axial cam, bearing, washer plate, and the pump assembly. I hope that answers your question.
@dbaker32644 жыл бұрын
Forget the spacers!!!. All you did is lower the pump down farther below the engine plate than before, and if the pressure washer ends up on the grass, you just burns the grass up faster since the pump will get hot. So lets say that if you need to space the pump down 1" from the shaft being too long. Take a grinder with cut off blade, and shorten the end of the motor shaft 1-1/8". As for key, don't be in a big rush to cut it down, since if up the shaft a touch in the groove above the pump on the motor shaft, works out better, then trimmed so it only fits the groove on the pump alone. Last one, and oiling the upper pistons are fine with gear lube, but on the other rubber seals/O rings that you can get to, use Silicone/dielectric grease before you start putting the pump back together. Also, pull the unloader since you only have to pull the U clip, and go to town on greasing the O rings on it with silicone grease as well. The seals greased, will last a lot longer and easier to pull at a later date. As for the unloader, if you have a way of measuring from the end of the lock nut to end of shaft to put them back on with the same amount of spring pressure, then you can pull the unloader spring assembly apart, to grease the Two O rings in side of it so those O rings last a lot longer/ to prevent unloader binding so less rod bending over time; forcing you to have to replace the unloader. Also, Silcone grease the end rod section, and work the grease in the pin channels to prevent unloader end rod binding that will not allow the pump to build up pressure when it stick all the way forward.
@nathanield.45275 жыл бұрын
Outstanding tear down and build-up video! I noticed my pressure washer pump had some oil leakage after being in storage in my shed. Do I need to replace the o-ring or should I just try tightening down the bolts? I never opened the pump yet and it was brand new before I stored it.
@bassntruck5 жыл бұрын
Making sure the bolts are tight costs nothing. Hopefully you didn't have water in the pump and it froze while in storage.

Are the annovi pumps as bad as they seem?
@stx386 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the excellent instructional video; it gives me confidence to tackle the one I have in the garage. I would add that the proper bolt torqueing process is to do opposite sides in turn, gradually like you did, but the key is to get them all the same tight.......at some point you need to use a torque wrench, an educated guess to torque would probably work.
@bassntruck6 жыл бұрын
You are not incorrect that a torque driver will give most people an exact tightness. I did not know the exact number so I can not give that. For me, I have used torque devices enough to be able to tighten most things by hand and get it very close. The housing bolts are not really mission critical if they are tight. I doubt the tolerances are tight enough to matter if it deflects slightly by over tightening.

Nice work! So I have a question: Since it's been 5 years since you posted this video, I'm curious if the cheap Chinese made pump is still working (assuming your neighbor still is your neighbor and still uses the thing). I have one that has lasted over 15 years and finally gave out (the pump part). It came with and Annovi AR (Italian made) pump but the cost of replacing just the pump (exact replacement) is twice what I originally paid for the entire unit. Even the AR rebuild parts I need are more expensive than an Atima brand (assuming Chinese made) complete pump. So I'm just curious if you or anyone on this post has had good luck with Chinese made PW pumps. Would like to know before I go that direction. Thanks.
