It might seem obvious, but you can't ride your bike with flat tyres! Blake shows you the three ways you can inflate your tyres on a ride, a track pump in the car park, and using a mini pump or CO2 out on the trail

A bit ago I had a spare floor pump, there was this one section where a bunch of downhill trails converge but its not a trailhead or anything, regardless I chained up the floor pump to a tree and left it there, I came back to see a painted sign saying "thanks ya legend!". Needless to say more pumps have been installed around my local trails cause everyone just loves em!

Folks, this IS a worthwhile video. My first thought was 'who the #@#$ doesn't know how to pump a tire?' - BUT then, I remembered my wife. She is my jewel in this earthly realm, but she is the epitome of a beginner. My compressor, floor pump (track pump) and my mini bring along pump have both schader and presta. She didn't know which to use or how to attach them. Nor anything about a CO2 cartridge. There are a LOT of new riders out there now given the plandemic, and they need all the tips they can get. While many of us literally grew up on bikes, not everyone did. Kudos on the simple but essential video - GMBN HAD to know that a lot of people would pan this as pathetic. Just remember when you got on your first bike (if you can!). You (like me) didn't know jack. Good on you guys GMBN.

I usually use the hand pump to put some volume in the tyer, than top the pressure up with a 16g co2 cartridge, its perfect like that. 25g cartridge is harder to come by, and often more than 2x the price of a 16g cartridge. There are 2 things the video didn't mentione that usually gets mentioned about co2 pumping. Ps:great work guy's, do appreciate it!

As for manual pumps I highly recommend one with a hose that goes from the valve to the pump. Take from someone that has already cracked 3 valves because of the constant move from the manual pump
@MikeHoopes
@MikeHoopes 3 жыл бұрын
Lezyne HV DRIVE is a good one in that category. Also, I recommend rotating the tire so the valve is close to the ground, which is a way better, and less fatiguing anchor than your arm.

Thanks Blake, even your simplest video’s are entertaining! I keep a mini air compressor in the trunk of my car that that runs off the car lighter socket, it often comes in handy before heading out for a ride.

There is also a third option which has kind of the best of both worlds: water bottles sized boosters. There are many brands making them, for example MilKit and SKS, they both have a very nice re usable air canister which you can inflate at home with your big floor pump / compressor and you carry it around for a fairly modest amount of weight, and it fits in your bottle cage! Given I use an hydration pack anyway, that's not a bad use of the bottle cage.
@69sound81
@69sound81 2 жыл бұрын
Never seen one, but think of this for a second. A co2 cartridge (25g) will most likely inflate 2 tyres to a very nice pressure , it can actually bid/bead/beed )not shure about the spelling here) high volume tyres. And it is nice and compact. On the other hand, you need a whole canister (just look at the size of those things) inflated up to 120-160 psi to pop one single tyre. I dont think one with 500ml size will help much. I rather get a bottle shaped "case" to hold 5 CO2 cartridges and be able to pop up to 10 tyres with those! or maybe just put a watter bottle ther full of plain water to be able to rinse and clean anything like the inside of the tire or my fork or my chain and derraileur while having something more tasty inside my watter bladder in the hydration pack.

I mostly use co2 cartridges. The main problem with co2 tubeless tire inflation when using latex based sealant is that due to rapid temperature change in the tire while inflating it, the sealant will bond and not only freeze, hence, will loose its purpose. Need to take into account and maybe use non-latex sealant.

I've seen Blake Builds so I know you got Ryobi tools and 18V batteries. The Ryobi tire inflator is what I keep in my car because I save my energy for rides (instead of manually pumping tires if needed) and let the battery do the work!.....Yes, I'm a lazy American! Lol! Plus, same price range if you already got a battery and charger. Work smarter NOT harder!

I think you need a part 2 of this video! You missed explaining about Presta versus Schrader, like how to unlock the valve on a Presta and how to make sure that your pump fitting is set to match your valve type. Seriously though, good job because like others said, there are lots of people starting out who need this info!

And at the end Blake says to take two or three Co2 canisters with you AND a pump. I have whittled it down to just taking a pump after trial and error with the cannisters, they are actually quite heavy too. I have an ancient little track pump with all the air you could ever need, just takes a little bit of effort!

I need a shock pump and a tyre pump that I can carry on rides. I'm considering the rockshox convertible pump so I can kill 2 birds with one stone. Is that a viable option? I don't see any reviews on it with bikers. Theres a guy who uses one to fill his expresso machine but that doesn't tell me if it's any good for bikes. I don't see any other pumps that will do both so I guess that's the only option for pumps that will do both.

Everything functions properly kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Nothing was damaged in the box aside from a decal on the fork. The decal was missing a piece of a corner but I ended up peeling them off anyways. Assembly is easy BUT make sure you tune up the derailleurs. Both the front and rear need adjusting. I'd advise going to a bike shop but I opted out and put in 10+ hours with the help of KZbin. Ended up fraying a shifter cable but all in all I learned from the experience. The Brakes work well but the front caliper needs adjusting or at least mine did because the rotor was rubbing against the pads. Make sure you swap out the seat, grips, and pedals. For the short run you'll be fine though. I've read that this bike isn't built yet for hard trails but I just need it for the city. PA has some of the worst roads and being in a mountain this was a great choice. Worth the investment!
