Good video and useful tips. The Pflueger President spinning reel you have comes with a braid ready spool. If you notice there is several vertical dark lines on your spool base. These are made of rubber. It is designed to provide grip for the braided line to hold onto while one is initially starting to wind line on the spool. Not as effective as your method but that was how Pflueger addressed it. 🙂

Thanks for the video. As a retired judge I used to tell people in the courtroom all of the time, "There is no shame in ignorance. We are ALL born with two things in common. 1. We are ALL born naked. There's no choice in that. 2. We are ALL born ignorant. That is why there is no shame in ignorance. Now, as we go through life, we learn things... The difference between good and bad, right and wrong, moral and immoral... All important things to learn. We all also learn different things about different subjects as we go through life. There's not a single person alive that knows everything. There's not even one person alive that knows everything there is to know about ONE thing. We are born ignorant and we live our entire lives being ignorant about something... Many things. This is why there is no shame in ignorance. Now, if we learn something, and we choose to continue to do things contrary to the knowledge we have, that is not ignorance. That is called stupidity. There IS shame in stupidity."

@Randy Bingham many judges DO have that attitude AND they seem to hold it against the accused. I wasn't that kind of judge. There are always reasons for people to exhibit the behavior that they do. I would take the time to listen to them and understand their situation. If what they told me was reasonable and I could get them to see both sides of the issue, then I was certainly amiable to being very lenient. The key for me in being a successful judge was to stay humble.

Thank you fir sharing. Let me give you little advise. Instead of using electrical tape that will take up some spool space, and you will end up with residue from the electric tape. Also is usually to wide fir some of the small crappie reels. Use plumbers pipe tape. It’s thin, has no residue and is narrow and will work great to do the same process. Again, thanks fir sharing.

Using a 300M line as I'm sure is expected 😅 thanks if anyone can help x

Do what you want with the left overs on the roll, as long as you do what the video says, leaving 1/8 inch of spool free of line (meaning dont let the line wrap all the way to the very edge of the spool) or you will get lots of problems on your fishing trip. Braid is at least twice as expensive as monofilament. My spinning reel said it would hold 130 yards of 8 pound mono but I had 150 yards of braid which is substantially thinner than mono. I used 10 pound mono backing because I don't want glue or sticky tape on my reel. I'm glad i did because the braid alone would not have filled the reel. I am not a frequent user of spinning reels because I prefer bait casting but the braid casts much better than mono and doesn't have the memory of mono so there's not lots of extra line pulling off the reel to get tangled in the bail or crank.
@AnglingWithAlex4 жыл бұрын

I use my rod mostly for eging( squid and cuttlefish jigging) and sometimes for jigging predator fishes like seabass, atlantic bonito, blue fish, amberjack. Here in Adriatic Sea( part of Meditterean sea) in Croatia now is squid season and eging is the most popular kind of shore fishing here) .

Anytime line comes off a spinning reel it twists one turn per loop. If it's twisted on the spool it untwists as it comes off with no twists between the spool and end of line. If you put it on the spool without twists it comes off twisted between the spool and end of line. In fact, a 100' cast can put over 200 twists between reel and lure/bait and when you lift your lure/bait out of the water between casts some of the twists come out...several per cast. In short order, the first 100' or so off your reel ends up twisted on your spool anyway. Especially after your first line break. Tight lines!

Hi, thanks for the video - Your method is 100 % correct, and yes, it's quite a brain twister ! I need to point out though, just for the record, since your way is completely correct, that you made a fundamental error when you explained the concept : Overall, you want the line to end up going onto your reel the same way you're going to end up *_pulling it from_* the spool lying flat - not , as you stated @04:54 , in the same direction as *_winding it onto_* the spool. The reason for this is you want the same existing directional line twist that exist on the spool already, to be transferred to the line that goes onto your reel.

I’m my spool comes with a river grip in the middle of the spool do I need tape or can I go ahead and do it?
@AnglingWithAlex5 жыл бұрын
You don't need the tape if there is a rubber grip on the reel already. You're good to go!

I put a 15 lb braid on a $20 Shakespeare rod and get no slips. I put 2 regular knots and then a slipknot

When spooling braided line, do you have to soak it in water for memory?
@zekiye5184 жыл бұрын

That Pflueger spool is "braid ready" and has three rubber inserts built into it to grip the braid... therefore you don't need any backing material... just tie the braid directly to the spool and go.

Yes - this is accurate. For demonstration purposes only to account for most reels - I showed the most reliable method. Not all reels with have the seated rubber grips. Thanks Steve!
