I gotta say a padded seat is a really nice short term comfort if your only riding around the ranch and things, then its like a couch , after about 3 or 4 hours of riding then they start to hurt more, a slick seat is more comfortable for long term riding I've noticed, anyways nice to see some people still making inlay seats.

Well it depends on how you put in your inlay and what foam you use. Having a high quality high density foam makes a big difference. You don’t want a cheap foam thats to soft and won’t spring back to its original thickness. I have seen some inlays just like what you said but the ones I have put in will be comfortable all day because I use the highest quality foam I can get and it’s high density. It’s a firm foam that gives just enough to give comfort to your butt after a long period of time in the saddle.

@@SterlingCampbellCustomSaddles having grown up in my father's upholstering shop, I learned early on the value of high density foam in a seat cushion. The better the foam, the better the seat. Like all other aspects of craftmanship, take care of the basics and the end product falls into place. Thank you for your time and effort in making this video. Next padded seat I put in, I'll follow your method.

LOVE the video!! New skill I learned on how BEVEL the excess edge off. Have you done a video on how to REPLACE a padded seat or put a new on on? I just replaced one and I am sure there HAS TO BE an easier way... I think they used BARGE for EVERYTHING.. as everything was glued down soooooo hard. The Leather Lady, LLC

What type of foam do you use and where do you get it? I'd like to use it for different application. Thank you.

I use a high density memory foam that’s 1/2” thick. Where to get it is the problem now. I am currently looking for a new supplier as well. It’s also called insulation foam.

I use Gum Tragacanth from Weaver Leather. It works great and it saves some time from the old way of doing it with glycerin and water.
