Hey guys this is the band it Jr with smooth ID clamps. This is how you can put hose clamps on without going to a hose supplier or using the crappy ones that you put on with a screwdriver and end up leaking! Click on the links below to buy the tool and clamps directly to start clamping away! Enjoy!

Actual professional marine mechanic checking in. My boss has this tool. It is sometimes (rarely) useful for special applications that need to be low profile but in general an ordinary hose clamp is best. You can take it apart again when you need to.

wormgear clamps work great when you don't care about the application and if it comes loose. These are the best option for any hose clamp as it will not come loose and also will hold up to the environment if the right stainless steel is used.

Drew F I disagree that "these are the best option for any hose" and there is no application that I would not "care about". In any kind of an emergency being able to assemble and disassemble parts is very important. Also in routine maintenance. But it's really more of a preference, I suppose. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I don't agree.

Drew F I'm actually not sure what you were saying. Perhaps I misunderstood.

Worm gear clamps come loose whereas this style clamp will not. If you have to take it apart on a regular basis this is not a good option. Both are useful but more people are unaware of this style clamp as it is typically used to secure larger hoses permanently and other items such as street signs. You said a hose clamp is best so I think what you meant was that a worm gear clamp is best in applications where you need to take it apart often.

Drew F agreed. I was just disputing the explicit statements in the video that this bander thing is always best when in my personal experience it usually isn't. That probably has to do with the type of people and boats I work for/on (commercial fishermen/fishing boats), so some professionals probably do use this kind of thing more (yachts? airplanes?). Anyway, just my 2 cents.

I think, the easiest way for maybe 90% of people, would be the worm one (that just need a flat screwdriver to set it), because is extremely easy to tighten or loosen, the one in this video is useful when not wanting to damage something with the slots, but mainly, when you want clamp of a not too common dimension, either tiny or big ones that you can not find them on stores, example, when you want to clamp something to a high voltage pole, which is about 14" diameter or more.

Worm clamps have there place as do these. Just depends on your application

To prevent/minimize damage to the outside of a hose when using screw clamps, install heat-shrink tubing beneath the screw clamp. It keeps the serrations in the clamp from digging into the hose.

This doesn't sound like a good idea to me. That heat shrink stuff can be pretty stiff once it's shrunk and would reduce the clamps ability to compress the hose. I also don't think that seeing the pattern of the serrations on the hose qualifies as damage.
@CaowsPalus
@CaowsPalus 6 жыл бұрын
Well, the type of heat-shrink material and (finished) thickness could be a factor, but I believe you might be underestimating the potential force of the screw clamp in the clutches of a ham-fisted installer. I've come across examples where the hose material has actually extruded through the serrations of the clamp. Ideally, it would be best to use a "zebra" clamp which has no serrations, but rather embossed threads on the clamp strap which are engaged by the clamp's screw.

Yeah, those are better. I think they can clamp harder before stripping as well.

Looks like the same thing we used on 4” hoses for transferring fuels.

Are Gates PowerGrip SB a good alternative? All of the Band-It stuff seems insanely expensive, except for the center punch options, which seem much less versatile.

I have been using the same type tool for many years, I am on the four tool now. I usually cut the ss bands off with a die grinder with a cutting wheel and reuse the cam lock if it is still good.

@@Hosebro is this not a $250 - $300 tool, and then the bands have to be bought in boxes of 50 or 100, and those seem to run about $400 a box lately, at least for the 316.

Not to feild friendly and no capacity for thermal expansion. T-Bolts are best if their installed with a torque wrench. That product is clean looking though and sure would save time driving to the hose press
