Generally good demo. I have been using Berkey's since 2008m and can to check how to prime a new one the I have had in closet for over. year. Interesting using the black pump to pre the filters. The blue tube works very quickly. Water coming from the tap , not full force, purges through the filter, and within about a minute water appears toned on the surface of the filter. I then allow it to run for about another minute to make sure the filter is primed. so I find the blue tube takes about 2-3 minutes max, including putting together. Just need to use the faucet. NO need to fill up a whole bucket, and then that water is tossed (or use to water plants!) . I prime mine about every 6 months. WE use for drinking, cooking plants and pets. City water, and seems to work great. Enjoy your water!

Great instructional video! :) We ordered the Travel Berkey a couple of days ago, and am excited to receive, setup, and start filtering our city water. Our water occasionally smells like a fish tank or chlorine, so we're looking forward to drinking clean and healthy water from our new Berkey. We've had under the counter 4-stage RO systems for years, but it's not fun changing the filters, plus it was getting old and starting to leak. We were going to replace it at a cost of $500 for the new RO system and the plumber, but we saw a KZbin video on the Berkey systems and decided to give it a try. Plus, it’s portable so we can put it on the table or travel with it! :) Again, great video!

@@itsmeterri The black filters have the silicone washer up in the wet area. From an engineering point of view, there is no reason to run the plugs differently, so washer on top, wingnut on bottom. Besides, it is better human engineering to put the wingnut out where it is easy to tighten it.

I've thought about buying a Berkey for some time now and finally broke down and purchased one -- it's on its way. Then I found this video which is very helpful--thank you! I have a few questions... 1) Is there a way to test the fluoride filters to see when they need to be replaced? Or how do you know to replace them? 2) I ordered the stainless steel spigot because I don't want the plastic. So how do you tell how much water is in the lower tank without the sight tool w/the plastic spigot? Are there any tricks for that? 3) Can I order filters from you, or do you just sell the Berkey itself? Thank you for your help.
@blackriflehomestead3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Yay I'm so glad you took the plunge! To answer your questions: 1) Fluoride filters typically need to be replaced once a year. Especially if it's been a year and filtering starts to slow down and other troubleshooting doesn't work (cleaning/priming the black filters, priming the fluoride filters), then it's probably time to replace. 2) I have the stainless steel spigot too. I know to refill once the water starts not coming out as quickly, pretty simple! 3) And yes, I will share my affiliate link below! Thank you for asking and thank you for supporting my small business! I really appreciate it. :) This link is not directly to the filters but as long as you follow this link, it's through me. www.berkeyfilters.com/collections/berkey-water-filter-systems?a_aid=5d52bab1e4410&a_bid=0227514c Please feel free to leave any more questions!

If you can't use the round attachment, did your Berkey kit come with a blue colored primer? If not, I'd contact Berkey about that. Or you can purchase the priming pump like I showed in the video. Once you prime them, then yes running 3 gallons through it once set up should be good!

@blackriflehomestead3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Great question. The black filters purify most everything. The white filters are for fluoride and arsenic. To possibly save yourself some money, my recommendation is to find out if your water supply is fluoridated. When we lived in California our water actually was NOT fluoridated and I didn't find that out right away! So while we lived there I really didn't need the fluoride filters. I hope that's helpful!

HI thanks for the video. I am super newbie to just now researching health and wellness. And I another youtuber mentioned getting a this item for clean water. Is this the same or better than going to these local Water Stores and filling up the 5gallon jugs??? Or is it cleaner? Thanks!!!
@blackriflehomestead3 жыл бұрын
In my opinion it is much better than going to a water store and getting the 5 gallon jugs! You have lots more control over your water, for one. You'll always have a way to filter water even in an emergency situation without power. Also, since the Berkey is made of stainless steel you're avoiding having water sit in plastic. Let me know if you have any other questions or are interested in purchasing one. It's a great investment to make, and the nice thing is that the black filters don't have to be changed very often. With 2 filters in the system, you can filter up to 6,000 gallons of water!

Where did you get your stand?

Definitely recommend having at least a stroller. If you don't want to hold your baby the entire flight, I'd recommend having a car seat on the plane, although if you want to be guaranteed a spot for your baby you'll need to buy a seat. But if I was on a 14 hour flight I would consider doing that. Or you have baby in a baby-wearing wrap.

Mmm...My Big Berkey did not come with red dye or the blue priming tool. Maybe it's to keep the total cost down, during these inflated times.

No manual, either. Just a 2 sided page. Sorry to complain. Not your concern.

Oh no! I would reach out to Berkey and see if they could send them to you as well as a manual. Their customer service is great!

Do you know what the filters are made from?

Are you talking about how long the black filters last? If so, the specific amount of time depends on how hard or dirty the water you're filtering is.

If u contact the company, maybe they will work on revising the system so the PLASTIC Chlorine filter isn't sitting in the water. That would b awesome! If u do let us know what they say thanks in advance!

I like that idea too! Thanks for the suggestion!

I am not the happiest with my black Berkey filters at this time. I have cleaned them even though they were brand new and they still don't remove the odor from my water. It's a strange chemical or petroleum odor. Idk where it comes from. I ordered the Berkey last year but since then have moved and been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. I am thankful to God that I'm healing very well. Anyways i won't b purchasing any Berkey filters until this issue is resolved. It doesn't remove any parts per million in my water. In fact when i got it my meter read a crazy high ppm AFTER filtering and now that i cleaned it, it registers exactly the same parts per million that my water reads BEFORE filtering it. So idk how much it actually cleans and what is removed because i have not tested the water for chemicals etc. I wonder if it doesn't remove ppm of "minerals" as they claim is the ppm reading then how does it remove chemicals, led and glyphacade that is a much smaller partical then minerals. Idk i hope this helps, if u get your water tested after filtering with Berkey i would b interested in the results. Ty have a blessed day.

Did you make sure to prime everything correctly?
@lisaa1134 Жыл бұрын
Never tilt your Berkey to get all water out it will break stem which you can't see however it will not pass the red dye test majority of time. I contacted Berkey & they will be putting this info to the consumers soon.🤗

As a Professional Rocket Scientist let observe that it will make everything go more nicely if the non- use holes are plugged before installing the filters.
