It is shown how to quickly and easily eliminate the backlash quill of the tailstock of the lathe.
The gap between the quill and the body of the tailstock of the T-65 was measured with an indicator. In the vertical plane it was 0.1 mm, and in the horizontal - 0.06 mm. The gap resulted from wear during operation
Solving the problem is fundamentally difficult. The gap arises from the mutual wear of quill and tailstock. Therefore, it is necessary not only to make a new quill, but also to restore the roundness of the hole of the tailstock.
The gap was eliminated in an easier way: using gaskets with a thickness of 0.1 mm and 0.06 mm.
There are probes of such thickness. However, it is impractical to use them as gaskets. First, it is a pity to spoil the tool. Secondly, steel probes, hardened.
Of course, you can push it. But a pair of friction steel on steel is bad.
Gaskets were made of copper foil. Available was foil 0.12 mm thick. She was unrolled then the thickness of 0.1 mm and 0.06 mm.

Gaskets were inserted into the tailstock and deformed in place using a cone.
After installing the gaskets, the backlash decreased by 6 ... 10 times. Horizontally, the gap became instead of 0.01 instead of 0.06 mm. Vertical 0.01 - instead of 0.1 mm.
