Think this guy one best jkd instructors so quick love way he attacks knees,I like savate because attack the knees that’s where Bruce lee got it from,I think side stance is best stance too can attack very quickly and defend very quickly, think when people have like a Thai or straight forward stance very slow footed yes might be able to generate more power but they move back so slow,

Dan, excellent videos. I had trained with a person whom his friend was under Lee in early 70s in wing Chung when Bruce was transitioning to JKD. I was a teenager then and purchased every book and material that I could after Bruce Lee’s death. I practiced daily for hours and became very good. I would constantly analyze his material so that I could benefit from his knowledge. I’m now in my early 60s and still trying to train again after a lay off period. Your videos are right on and inspiring please keep them coming. Nick

If I am not mistaken this man was a student of Ted Wong. It's on record that Ted Wong had spent a very good amount of personal time learning martial arts from Bruce Lee in private and trained under Bruce as one of his most advanced student's in the art of JKD. Of course Wong is one among few students who received original certification from Bruce to teach JKD and just like his teacher/master Wong also placed a particular emphasis on using FOOT WORK to perfect his craft!

Bruce Lee simply incorporated the 'hip' and 'leg' movements of cha-cha into his JKD. The 'core strength' is actually at our lower torso, and channelling the 'energy' to the back foot before 'gliding' both the feet toward the opponent, much like 'cha-cha' dancer gliding on the dance floor.

Okay so the way I used to train and teach this is that your rear foot should be setting at about the same time the front is landing and the rear should take the place of the front... That is IMO the correct Pendulum kick and it goes for the side and hook... @4:55 the rear is about to land but the front has not really begun to cover the distance...

Thats a cool technique!! I do traditional kung fu, there is a "cross step" for when you out of range. Basically front foot and rear foot change places by crossing legs leaping forward off front leg , the back leg ends up in cat stance ready to kick. This pendulum technique in my opinion is better as it is quicker and safer. The cross step has more moments of vunerability, because the point where you legs are crossed is not as stable and the front knee is exposed to attack. The front knee in pendulum step is also vunerable but as it quicker there higher probability of landing attack with it :D

Nice technique. It makes the head a difficult target while you can get in range fast. It´s kinda funny that we humans nearly forget what actually defined us as a species: walking. Just go in a park and watch people walk or worse run and you´ll see that maybe 1 of 10 maintains good body posture and mechanics. I´ve recently seen a bunch of kids in a park and they all ran and fell one after the other. They were simply not used to walk on anything but smooth surfaces! I struggled a lot with running and getting somewhat decent footwork for my martial arts and when I see 52 Blocks, Shastarvidyya or a few HEMA guys, I know that I only managed to scrape the surface when it comes to footwork.
