nice .. but I have to wonder if the seal that allowed the oil to leak out in the first place will also let the new oil leak out too

Next time put some grease on the drill bit and tap to catch as much of the metal as possible, but even so you will have some metal shaving go into the unit. Did you get any vibrations now that you add two screws to plug the holes? Has the oil leaked out again?
@andriesappelgryn65177 ай бұрын
I am not convinced that no metal shavings got into and remained in the body of the fan clutch. If it did, it will probably cause some unwanted damage inside there. And I'm sure you could have saved yourself some effort by using a shorter pipe.

Many years ago Toyota use to sell small quantities of the correct oil just for this purpose. I bought some to do the fan clutch on my FJ55 but never did use it. I still have the fluid in my garage. I'll look for it and update this thread with the part no. Oh, I'd have greased that tap so that the swarf was held by the tap.

I forgot to chase this up. Sorry. I found it in my garage. The old Toymotor part no. is Oil Silicon, 08816-10001 and has a volume of 18ml. There is another no. which refers to its physical properties, i.e., viscosity 100001 CST (centistokes). I just did a Google search and found it on evil bay.

Good video, where did you source the silicone? Thanks.

that Behr visco fan clutch can not refilled - I've done it on my BMW 318 - E36 is not working , the best thing to do is , I replace fan clutch with japan car fan clutch ( which can be refilled its silicon oil) , cheap and safe solution for me , that Behr price is reduced my wallet tickness :)

Where did it leak out and what about expansion when it gets hot, you filled it with no air gap.

He's filling the reservoir at room temp, so that should be fine

@@danl4222 But as it gets hot it expands, filling at room temp is the problem.

Too much fluid. Create more resistance and fan keep running all the time. Which make the fan draw a lot of air which make wind noise. This create drag on engine which lost power and fuel consumption
@hellhoe93115 ай бұрын
You can throw it away. It won't work properly anymore cause Its in a locked state forever.
@Guillotines_For_Globalists3 ай бұрын
Why is it in a locked permanent state, for what reason?

@@Guillotines_For_Globalists Every visco coupling has an accurate volume of oil filling for proper acting in different conditions. Exact amount of oil is known for manufacturer only. I am not able to describe how it should works in a one word. It is rather complex device. If you really want to find out how it works you have to read several special books and disassemble several couplings first. I may just say that it has two internal combined oil volumes inside. Circulation occurs due to centrifugal acceleration and а valve opening or closing in a certain condition. Even a slight violation of the oil volume leads to incorrect operation of the visco coupling as a result.
@Guillotines_For_Globalists3 ай бұрын
@@hellhoe9311 I understand that, however it probably is working well enough and definitely better than it was. Considering they're trying to save a few bucks I'm sure they're not concerned about having it be 100% perfect.

Are fan clutches that expensive? Maybe on a Ferrari or Bugatti,orherwise just buy a new one.
@MikesczeАй бұрын
I do not trust 30 years old fan clutch spinning at 6000 rpm. If they fail they can destroy everything around them even your hood. I think its not worth the risk, just replace it and you will be fine for many years

You should be banned from education videos. Why would anyone do it this way? Also....how do you know its still balanced well after just drilling holes wherever you feel lol. Also....you know there is only a certain amount of oil required in there....did you measure?
