Really nice video. You kind of explained it in your live too and made me realize how awful I was healing as disc in raids. I switched to holy and saw a 50% hps increase. But thanks to this video I expect another 50% hps increase once I master spirit shell ramps. I've been focusing on m+ with pugs and I've been struggling really hard in some dungeons. I'm depressed as these keys are not even high. It took me 7h to get past the 2nd boss in NW+8 and cleared it in 80min... I hate to make this comment any longer but I've had this bug and wondered if it also happens to you or others: sometimes I instantly die from full hp, look at recap and see an 8k hit which should be far from killing me.

Is that but with dying as holy? Because holy is notorious for not giving accurate death recaps due to spirit of redemption. Glad the content is helping you man!

@@leahsinsxo Spirit of redemption just procs when I'm full hp. The first time it happened I thought the pvp talent activated itself without clicking it and in dungeon but then I died. It happened a few times when I was fixated by the 3rd boss in NW. I was at least 10ft away from the boss so he shouldn't have reached me and even if he did I would have survived 1 hit. Thank you very much :D Im thinking about maining a priest in SL, dont know which spec yet, but Ill just try out all of them while leveling. So thats not the problem. But my huge issue is that I cant decide which race to pick. Thats somehow a big deal for me. Dont know, class an race have to just fit the WoW feeling. On Horde Id just pick Blood Elf, but I cant decide what to choose on alliance. Im struggling between human, void elf and maybe lightforged draenai. Everybody recommends human, but I honestly dont care about the racials, which make human priests that strong. What would you pick on alliance for the different priest specs?

The mini ramp that I do outside of the main ramp usually consists of 3 PW:S + 1 PW:R -> Schism, Penance, Smite spam, out side of that I try and keep atonement up on 2-3 targets and trust my other healers to heal :)

Amazing if you know when damage is coming. Knowing when stomps or blasts, or unavoidable raid damage. I just got out of raid, 4 healers I did the least healing with 1.1M healed. The highest healer being 1.7m. But I did 970k prevented damage (shield/absorb) where the other 3 healers did under 100k. So although I healed the least, I prevented almost 1M damage. Aswell as keeping at 1.5k dps the entire fight. The highest other healer was 400.

I just came out of raid heal as disc and my output was horrible. I was healing reactivly, without Spirit Shell. Logs said I was amonst the 20% worst disc healers - FUCK. Just so everyone else understands. Shadowmend does not take longer than Power Word: Shield does. They always have the exact same time until you can cast the next spell because the gcd without any haste is 1.5s (which is the base cast time of most of our spells excluding radiance and penance). This means the decision making between pws and smend is done depending on if the target is dmged and thus you will receive the healing from smend (smend heals for a loooot more than pws shields for) or dependant on if you have to move and thus will need to use pws. That all being said, smend also has the advantage of applying the atonement at the end of its cast whereas pws does so at the beginning of its gcd meaning shadowmend effectively has a longer atonement duration for you to dps in.

Testing the ramp up on a dummy at 210 Ilvl with 19% (620) Haste - AND power infusion on the ramp up - I only dish out a roughly 16k worth of shield this is of course without food, augment runes, oils, flask or the castle nathria 100+ versitiliy thing. (the +30 haste food made no difference for amount of smites I fit in) Without Power infusion I only get 1-2 smites off for a 12-14k shield depending on that second smite on a perfect casting rotation- a 3rd is possible with power infusion if you cast it on yourself - I typically give it to the top dps. PWS only gives 15 seconds of atonement, with 5 casts + 2 power word radiance then +3 seconds from spirit shell - this will equate to roughly 10seconds of atonement during your spirit shell burst. Its not necessary to pop desperate prayer for your +25% hp boost. I am nowhere near the spirit shell cap of 100% of my hp, but it is worth noting that desperate prayer can be combined in the macro to cast Spirit Shell and Mindbender, but i'd save it as a personal. After typing all of this out - noticed mindbender is bugged on the training dummies therefore missing out on 10 seconds of damage ( more shield) I tested the ramp on an elite. ~20k with power infusion and ~15k without power infusion.

Outside my ramp windows I do a mini ramp which contains around 3 PW:S + Rad then the normal rotation, outside of that I keep a few atonements up on the tanks etc and just try to conserve mana. Thanks for the sub!

This and your UI video are super helpful. 2 questions for ya mate: 1. If desperate prayer falls off while shields are up (and maxed) do all the shields readjust? 2. Also, Do you have a general rule of thumb for when to start applying your atonements for ramps? Some napkin math: 7 PWS + 2 PWR = ~ 10 seconds. Then you activate SS and have effectively 6 seconds (9 with legendary) atonements on your PWR targets then 10 seconds of shield. So assuming you have the legendary, you might set up/ramp for 19 seconds, then you want the big damage to come within the next 10 seconds afterwards. Somewhere between 20-29 seconds before damage (preferring the lower end of that range)? I suppose you could PI yourself if you only have limited time.

It kinda depends, but I usually start around 10 seconds before I wanna press SS, it has a lot to do on if the damage is a massive burst or spread out, if it's spread out there is no harm in still doing the damage phase of your ramp as the damage is coming out, if that makse sense?

For instance, hungering destroyer's expunge threw me off because it deals damage a few seconds after the cast. Do you have recommendations on ability timers other than the default DBM ones?

PW:S if people are full HP during ramp, you want around 15-17 atonements during a normal ramp with no haste procs, 2 charges for every ramp, you can use 1 charge in between ramps, keep purge up 100% :) Hope that helps!

I think it's pretty much the same thing, you have to know the dungeons well and ramp with rapture or use barrier when big damage is coming. Low to moderate damage should be healed with atonement in a reactive style, for aoe pop radiance and for spot use shadow mend, then do your dps rotation. Don't forget to maintain purge the wicked and refresh it efficiently with penance, and use shield on tank before pulls for the initial atonement.

Thanks for the video! This may seem like a foolish question, but how does this work with having multiple disc priests in the group? If you're running two do these fights have the damage to be able to reliably stagger these spirit shell CDs and get good overall mitigation/throughput for both healers, or is one better off going Holy instead? We have as disc already and I'm trying to decide for heroic and mythic if its more beneficial to run a 2nd disc or go the holy route as a flex healer. Any feedback would be appreciated. No worries, not silly at all! So the way spirit shell works is 60% of your max health as a sheild (cap) this is shared with out Disc Priests unfortunately, so this means you don't want to overlap spirit shells, so you'd ideally wanna alternate ramps etc. Hope that helps a bit! Holy is very very strong so in my opinion a Holy priest may be the better option instead of double disc!

I wouldn't macro it in, it's quite hard to hit the cap, and the situations where you will utilise it are few and far between, you'd be better off just using it as and when you see fit. You can use it midway through your ramp if you'd like if you can see that you are starting to cap on the SS.

Regarding the use of DP for a bigger Spirit Shell absorb, most of the time I don't feel like I'm getting close to the 60%.

Right now with the current gear I've got, I can reliably get to the 60% without using DP. If I do use DP, then I can max it out if I get lucky with crits, or I can reliably max it out if I have lust/PI, so I think it depends on what your gear/haste levels are at, it is possible to do it currently with good amounts of haste. I'd recommend using a spirit shell tracker if you're not already, it helps you work out where you can improve a bit!

It makes it seem like you would want to cast spirit shell before your two power word radiances to get the healing that they do turned into absorbs, THEN do your damage rotation which will affect everyone with atonement. Yeah it's more valuable to get longer atonements out rather than adding the PW:R healing to it. You can max the SS without needing the PW:R healing so the longer atonements is just better.

I've been liking the holy priest's rotation and reactive gameplay. At the same time I do feel like Disc is an objectively better spec, which in turn makes me think that I should play that to push higher keys. But I can't seem to find a flow when playing disc in dungeons. Is there a good reason to feel like you have to play disc to achieve better results, or is that just the internet and stats getting to me? (I'm mainly talking about m+ here)

So I think with Disc in keys it's a lot more dependent on the group you're playing with than Holy. Holy is easily able to cover peoples mistakes, Disc struggles with that. So if you did have a good group, who knows what to interrupt and a tank that is able to keep themselves alive with not too much healing then you should be able to push higher as Disc. I also feel that Disc is very gear dependent right now, and hopefully as you get more gear disc will just start to shine again in keys. I think right now you can play both very well in keys, I'm looking to start getting a decent group together to actually push and I will then hopefully be able to compare the 2 specs even better! Hope that makes sense!

@@faridabud6595 So there are haste breakpoints for Spirit Shell, I'd have a look at Focused Will to get hold of those, but I'd look in to getting a good amount of haste/vers for M+ and haste/mastery for raids. All stats are very close, but the safe bet is to get a decent amount of haste and then the rest is pretty equal!

Yeah you're correct, I made a mistake in what I said there, what I mean was atonement applies at the end of a shadowmend cast, whereas PW:S is at the start, so you will benifit from slightly longer atonement windows if you SM the first 2-3 targets and then PW:S. Good spot!

Probably not the best spec if you're just getting back in to the game, but if you put in the time and effort it's not an issue, I've mained Melee DPS almost since Vanilla, I've only just gone healing/disc since Shadowlands, so if you are willing to put in some time you can definitely be fine!

Your brain, no meme, the best way to know what to ramp for is to go through warcraft logs and have a look at the timings of other discs. Unfortunately there isn't really any tool that can do it for you, or at least none that I know of. Disc just comes with needing to learn the fights before you actually do them.

@@livebythews yeah exactly, BW definitely helps to know when the abilities are coming up, but you often need to know further in advance than the timers tell you. But once you start doing the prep through WCL you will genuinely start to feel like a better player, it really does help! Glad you're enjoying them!

No I don't think I'd ever take it in M+, rapture is far too strong on 5 targets, each target can get 2 rapture shields on them during the duration, thats stronger than a SS in every single way. Plus you can do it on the fly whilst moving etc.

The ramping i understand, its just timing windows i need to memorize but what should i be doing IN BETWEEN ramping? im very unsure on how much spot healing i should be doing in between ramping. i end up fucking up my cd's cause the traditional healer in me wants to top people off..

You just put out a few attonments and a Radiance if it's really needed. It's okay to be capped on Radiance charges. As disc you have to rely on your other healers to handle things between your ramps.

When you say pvp trinket do you mean the on use one that gives primary stat for 20 seconds or the on use one that raises your max health? Ive read that people are using the health one to buff the shields more, but in your video you use the icon for the primary stat buff

I'm using the on use int one, the battlemaster one has a 3 mins cd from what I remember which won't line up for every spirit shell.

What should you prioritize after the spirit shells expire and before the next ramp up?

You'd have a little mini ramp of 2-3 atonments and 1 PW:R so 8ish atonements in total, do that within 40 seconds of your SS ending so that you have 2 charges of PW:R ready for your next ramp, outside of that focus on just smiting the bosses head off :)

- apply attonements with Power Word "Shield" / Shadowmend and Power Word "Radiance" - activate Spirit Shell + Mindbender + Trinket if you have a good one - then use damage spells to stack up the shield

I went Necrolord because I love Shadow Priest. Is this still doable as Necrolord? How much of a drop off in performance is it?

So Necro lord wont be terrible, just make sure to use Unholy Nova at the start of your spirit shell, basically in place of mindgames, you may struggle to max out the SS with poor gear but eventually it should be fine - not as good as Venthyr but it won't be terrible either!

No sure why they say Kyrian for raiding, Venthyr is definitely the play for the raid, as for keys, Kyrian would be better, so it depends on what you focus on really!

So you'd want something a bit like this #showtooltip Spirit Shell /use Trinket Name /cast Spirit Shell /cast Mindbender That should do the trick, just make sure to put the trinket name or item slot in place on Trinket Name on the second line :) hope that helps!

So i use to just heal in dungeons (m+ and stuff) and in a raid environment i just normaly dps. But i whant to start to heal in raids and my guild just give me a green card to go. Any tips for beginners? Still doing normal runs.

I'm going to make an M+ video soon, what I'd recommend is taking twist of fate as it's going to help top lower people, you can also take Mindbender as it's hard to keep solacing if you're constantly shadowmending etc, shadow covenant may also be decent this week for grevious, I've not tried it just yet!

LoL it's strong yes but it's hard to use. You must have add-ons or 100% knowledge of the boss raid dmg timer. If you don't know when dmg is going to drop you will never be at the top.

Is Kyrian's ok for raid?

It gives you a significantly weaker ramp (Mindgames is a very powerful nuke with a perfect CD that lines up with Disc's ramps) but you get a fantastic "oh shit" button that does a ton of AoE healing on a 3min cooldown. It doesn't really synergise with Disc's playstyle in raids but I guess you can treat it as a major healing cooldown.

0% haste - 6 casts 13.7% haste - 7 casts 27.3% haste - 8 casts 40.91% haste - 9 casts 54.54% haste - 10 casts These are the breakpoints for Spirit Shell, you want to just hit the breakpoint and then not get any more haste until you can hit the next one ideally!

Don't worry about secondaries right now. Always go for the highest ilvl as it will give you the most Int. The difference between 6 and 7 Atonements isn't as big as getting larger shields.
