Thanks for the tutorial. ;-) If any of you are interested in automation of this process, I made a simple tool based on this tutorial. You can download the tool here: pastebin.com/raw/DyByQSwE How to run: Download > Drag&Drop to max (as .mcr) > [press [X] Max Search], write SCALE_CAT while CAT parent is selected > Enjoy.

Thanks for these great videos! It makes me feel Max is still relevant to the industry. As I have still so much to learn and don't want to go back all the way for Maya

I'm always amazed how intelligent peoples have created such complex things as CAT without thinking one minute about the base of the base of operation: size, duplication. The most reliable for scale seems to go to "utility->more->Rescale World Units->Scene" which is like using an atomic bomb to kill a bee. Anyway, thanks to Milos, the tutorial is simple and straight.

Hey Milos....great video as usual! Is there any posible way to ragdoll a CAT rig in the same manner as a Biped with MassFX Ragdoll?

congratulations .. for your tutorials. what kind of rendering did you use here?

You can also disable Animation layer (or delete), select all Elements (sometimes some elements should be ignored, depending on the rig), and use Rescale World Units. Much easier and faster.

Thank you for this little tutorial. I ran into a sort of problem: why is my mesh disappearing after I collapsed XForm to editable poly?
@LeeJackson3d Жыл бұрын
Good vid, you can also add the mesh to the rig and just rescale in catunits :P - no need for all this hooha

You can also try this: save your rig and then add it to a new or already open scene and select the necessary CAT units ratio and with this approach everything will work correctly.

Yeah, but what if I want to have like a morph slider that scales the character up and down? Something that would be useful for a character editor in a game or something. I guess this should be done with the game IDE instead.

It seemed it worked fine but I looked closely at the animations and the mesh had some deformations. It didn't work for me.

Hey, I'm late to the party, but is there any way of scaling a rig with Barry's morpher face controls? It's something to do with the constraints on the face controls but can't get my head around how to resolve. Any ideas?

Hy... milos you mentioned that now a days it doesnt matters any more plz elaborate it more..how are game engines handeling that...can you make a video on scaling in engine vs in max pros n cons

Doesn't work for me for some reason. But rescaling world units from utilities helped in that case.

Hey, this saved me, thank you! I had a character who needed to be four times as big as he was, and this really simplified the process. (Not to mention, the character was a million pieces and had some that weren't skinned, but linked, and other that had morphers!)

I have a problem: my character has a morpher utility. the morphs are corrupted after scaling.
@hjups3 жыл бұрын
Shouldn't there be a simpler way to do this? Would simply adjusting the CAT scale work if you used a similar workflow to your previous video (mesh parented to max bones, and driven by a CAT rig)?
@DarthBiomech3 жыл бұрын
Sadly it's not so easy when your rig has bunch of additional stuff like helpers or just parented objects without skin... Sometimes it's actually just damn easier to scale up the surrounding scene instead.
@silentboof3 жыл бұрын
If you add the "mesh" in the "add rigging" menu then you can easily rescale everything properly using CATunit ratio! I mean why didn't you do that? is there is specific reason?
@Sweemops3 жыл бұрын
you could also change the system unit scale from 1,0 to 1,5 or whatever you need.
@mixayshamrov52133 жыл бұрын

you can also just rescale world units
3 жыл бұрын
But that is like instead of buying a larger closet, you buy a smaller house. Also that would affect the whole scene globally. This talks about how to rescale a character.
@barcodeguy76273 жыл бұрын
can't you just use Utilities -> Rescale World Units?
@conatcha3 жыл бұрын
That rescales the whole scene, not only the model.
@barcodeguy76273 жыл бұрын
@@conatcha isn't there a checkbox to rescale selected objects only?
@conatcha3 жыл бұрын
@@barcodeguy7627 No as far as I know. This is not a simple thing to do.
