How to really identify polarized and non polarized mcbs? Most of them are marked with (+ )ve & (-)ve symbols.

As shown in curves it take a specific time to trip, moreover why we are choosing the MCCB rate current to be equal 1.25 full load? As example: heater current = 12 Amp MCCB ==> B16
@electricalengineeringplane66208 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question 😊 we increase mccb rating current for protection purposes,, to take into consideration the temporary overload current and inrush current
@manout-kidin873510 ай бұрын
So a C16 MCB will keep working if 16amps current drawn by a AC stabilizer (100% rated current load @ 230 volts ) runs through it day n night 24*7 ( in case of inverter AC ) & will only trip when amps exceed 10 time the rated amps (short circuit ) or voltage drops ( below 200 volts ) and AC stabilizer starts drawing more amps causing overload situation right ?
@electricalengineeringplane662010 ай бұрын
Yes that's right, if current exceeds 16amps (let's say 18amps for example) after a time that you can calculate on the curve the breaker will trip, this increase of current could be because of drop in voltage or increase of load(power)

what is the difference between AF and AT circuit breaker ratings ? thank you
@electricalengineeringplane6620Ай бұрын
The difference between AF (Ampere Frame) and AT (Ampere Trip) ratings in circuit breakers is: AF (Ampere Frame): This is the maximum current capacity that the circuit breaker frame can handle. It represents the structural rating of the breaker and is fixed. For example, a 1000 AF breaker has a frame that can support up to 1000 A. AT (Ampere Trip): This is the actual current rating at which the breaker will trip. It can be adjusted within the limits of the AF rating. For example, a 1000 AF breaker may have an AT setting of 800 A.

How to know if the MCB is reversible or not?
@electricalengineeringplane66204 ай бұрын
To determine if a Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) is reversible or not, you can check the following aspects: 1. Manufacturer Specifications: The easiest way is to refer to the MCB's datasheet or user manual, where manufacturers often indicate whether the MCB is reversible (i.e., whether it can be installed in either direction). 2. Markings on the MCB: Look for any directional arrows or labels near the terminals that indicate "Line" (input) and "Load" (output) connections. If such markings are present, the MCB is not reversible, meaning it must be installed in a specific direction. 3. Pole Design and Contacts: For some MCBs, especially older models, the internal contacts are designed to only safely operate in one direction, based on how the arc is extinguished during a trip. If the MCB is marked as unidirectional, it's likely not reversible. 4. Visual Inspection: If the MCB has distinctive inlet and outlet terminals that differ in size or shape, this indicates that the MCB is not reversible. If both terminals look the same and have no directional markings, it may be reversible. 5. Testing the Reversibility: If you are unsure after reviewing the manual and inspecting the MCB, you can test it by wiring the input and output in reverse and observing if the breaker still functions normally, though this should only be done by a qualified electrician for safety reasons.
