Jennifer Sawyer no, if you aren’t smart enough to grasp fractions, which I believe is grade 3 in my country, you shouldn’t be around wood and power tools. By not insulting ppls intelligence you are encouraging ignorance. Also, metric system hello? Why they still using a medieval king’s thumb as they measuring basis. Come join us in the 21st century

@@mikekoz68 How in the heck do you think by not insulting people ,basically making them feel less than, stupid, dumb or however else you want to phrase it is encouraging ignorance...!!?? What is ignorant though was your irrelevant comment... Power tools isn't all about using math.. Anyone with a little common sense can figure out how to use a flipping power tool... Forget thinking about others joining the 21st century you might want to think about joining the real world instead of living life through social media.. I normally don't even bother responding to the weirdos like your self, the ones that get on a social media site commenting hateful responses on someone's post but for some odd reason I felt I should make an exception just for you, so I did.. Maybe wherever you are from people shouldn't worry so much about which metric system they should be teaching, instead maybe they should start by teaching humanity....

Great explanation of how to read a tape measure. I got my first job working construction at the age of 14 and I worked for a guy from Belgium. He was great. He was both a mechanical and electrical engineer and I was hired to help him build an electronic shooting gallery. Long story short, my first task was to cut pieces of square stock that we were turning into a gothic style fence. Joe asked me to cut each piece to exactly 8 feet and 5/16th of an inch. I had no clue how to read the tape measure do I cut my first one to 8 feet and 1/8th. He measured it and said too short. My next was too long. He finally asked if I was mentally challenged and I confessed that I didn't know how to read the tape measure other than inches. He laughed his head off and said he was taught when he was an apprentice and they learned inches and later metric. Joe then taught me what you just went through and I have had no problems at all since. BTW, Joe had me set up a stop block and a saw horse to cut the initial square stock and I cut all 65 pieces exactly the same. Fortunately, I have done a lot more work since then I had taught my son how to read a tape measure when he was about 12 and helped me build a deck. Man skills are a must.

This is EXACTLY what I pointed out to someone else that made a comment about "being taught this in grade school, yet knowing HS students that are idiots." People would be surprised,I think, if they realized just how much "basic knowledge" is NOT taught in school these days. For instance, I was never taught any geography outside of the U.S. Even then, it was extremely limited. My daughter was never taught it either. I was amazed at some of the things that even I had taken for granted being taught, that my daughter was not!

Nice, need to send this to my sister and her friends! Your video popped up while I am 3d printing a molding reveal guage. I stuck 1/8, 1/4, 3/8. and a half inch on a block so I can easily nail it up without having to cut a template every job.

❤...thank you, thank you for this comprehensive video! Long story short... I needed to measure my feet to get comfortable shoes. I have been shown what the measurement lines were but kept forgetting 😢. Found your video, made a "cheat sheet" like your board, and will keep with my measuring tape until I've memorized it 😊. Thanks again, Paw Paw. You're awesome ❤🥳
