For people saying the updated version isn't able to log you out, simply switch on the airplane mode , see the text and then delete/uninstall the app and install it again and the message will appear as if you haven't seen the text ^^

This doesn't work with the updated version of instagram. Because when I go to Settings in order to log out, the Settings aren't loading, saying that I have no internet connection.

I got it to work. I had the same problem as you with the settings not loading. Not sure how it is on IOS but on my Android, instead of going to settings I minimized IG and long pressed the IG icon and cleared the cache/data. That logs you out and when you log back in you'll see that the message you read is in bold text as if you never opened it. Hope that helps.

@@xNilGeez I’m seeing this so late but thanks for the tip! I’m using iOS tho so it doesn’t work for me. But now I’m just restricting the person so that way they can’t see when I read their message. When I want to reply, I simply unrestrict them. I hope this helps too :)

Didn’t work for me, because once I read the message and went to log out the setting didn’t load since the Wi-Fi was off. So I couldn’t log out and switch accounts.
