Edit on Jul. 31: At 2:43, the 20 seconds of black screen is actually supposed to be video footage of me pronouncing the letter, but I guess it corrupted. It kept on going corrupt during editing, and I thought I fixed it, and I was sure I did, but I guess I didn't watch the final video hard enough.
Hey guys! I made a Korean tutorial teaching you how to read Korean. It is very easy compared to English, to be honest, and I made sure to make this tutorial incredibly detailed with step-by-step processes. You will be able to follow along with the video as you're watching.
This is for people who want to learn Korean, most of whom are probably K-pop fans wishing to learn how to read Korean. If you are one of them, you came to the right video. This video is detailed, not too long, and only delivers the learning content. It actually makes you understand the language and gives you tips on how to memorize Korean faster and easier.
Anyways, I hope you guys found this helpful. If you did, then leave a like. If you want to say anything, leave a comment in the comment section below, and subscribe to my channel. Thanks for watching! Bye.

don't just read the books as you read them also write down what you learn. and don't just copy from the book but read and put in your own words that will make it easier for you to remember and learn. Also make lessons for yourself and put everything you struggle with more then the rest in one group and study and relearn them till you the full hang of it. I do know if it will help you but it might

@@StarJesse13 im glad to hear that i also have a bad memory so it has taken me time to learn some as well. I try to do as much open exposed learning that i can and then do study lessons usually in the morning and at night and i tend to remember more easily. If you can met somebody who speaks(or someone else learning as well) talking to each other in the language you are learning could be very helpful as well. I recently got into kpop and was quite proud of "teaching myself" to read hangul by staring at an alphabet chart for half an hour, but reading along to lyrics/subtitles/etc really confused me with the top vs bottom consonants. This was super clear and I have a MUCH better understanding now, none of the other videos i've seen have spelled out the names of the characters (which is such an easy way to understand how they work??? why doesn't anyone else explain that lmao) thank you so much!!

This is two years old and super underwatched for probably the best Hangul breakdown I’ve seen. I keep restarting my Korean learning and I legitimately don’t think I’ve ever gotten bottom consonants in one of these. I think it just doesn’t come up in any of the other “be able read Korean in 30 minutes” videos and gets reserved as a “you’ll learn about those when you get to advanced vocabulary” types of things

I don’t normally advocate Duolingo for anything except maybe expanding basic vocabulary repetition practice, but I found it has a separate area in learning Korean where you can learn the alphabet in small batches. It does combine both romanized and normal Hangul for matching practice, plus writing practice with indicated stroke order. Definitely not something to do on its own, but its free and works for me for phone on the go alphabet refreshers as a learning supplement.

for the more "l" like ㄹ, it helps to almost roll it the way one would roll their r's, except with the tongue touching the roof of the mouth. it creates the more r-like sound (and it could be how it's actually pronounced in Korean. It also makes the vowels sound better, because pronouncing the l's that way alters the vowel).

It seems to me that understanding the concept of voiced vs. unvoiced sounds would be very helpful in learning Korean/hangul. Most of the pairs are a voiced/unvoiced pair (g/k, d/t, b/p), the voiced consonants turn into their unvoiced counterparts when they’re bottom consonants, and most of the pronunciation exceptions seem to actually be instances of devoicing unvoiced sounds for better flow.
@geumnabi
@geumnabi 2 жыл бұрын
This would be very helpful. You also need to keep in mind that Korean actually has trios- there is voiced, unvoiced aspirated and unvoiced unaspirated. It's hard to pronounce and hear the differences for English speakers but it gets better with repeated and regular exposure

this was so helpful in terms of top/bottom consonants and although I'm not fond of romanisation of the consonants since they tend to vary a lot between sources, the audio in this video definitely helped me distinguish which consonants are aspirated and voiced. for example if we use ㄷ, ㄸ is a voiced ㄷ, while ㅌ is aspirated I believe. very helpful as it's easy for English speakers like me to confuse these

I've been learning Korean for like 50 days and I had to pause the video and scream at the 2-min mark because I had NO IDEA that the word had a different sound depending on where it was. I thought the "g" was always pronounced as "k". I'm losing my mind this changes everything.

Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video! I've tried learning Korean on YT a couple times, and get discouraged, but with this video, I finally have some understanding! Unfortunately, for me, the music in the background competes with what I'm trying to hear and understand though. Still, super appreciative!!

Another important thing to know Korean is always written ether left to right or up and down . Which makes it a lot easier to write and make clean lines.

Huh, seems like I'm not the only one to get recommended to your videos in the last few days! I taught myself how to read 한글 probably 8 or 9 years ago by using a flash game, but only recently sat down to actually start learning the Korean language seriously. I've been using TTMIK and Duolingo in conjunction, and I think it's going well, though I am definitely still a beginner. Having learned to read 한글 the way I did, I have been a little unsure if I had the details of how it worked exactly right, and this helped me clear a few things up. Specifically, I can better hear the differences between some of the doubled consonants, and, as embarrassing as it is to say, I didn't know *for sure* how the bottom consonants exactly worked. I just kind of got a feel for how they sounded and should be pronounced by listening to the language a lot while reading along to things like subtitles and lyrics. Having that little bit more confidence that I'm reading correctly will be wonderful going forward. So yeah, just wanted to drop a thanks for this detailed breakdown!

I love the speed in which you were going through this. I've been self teaching at least the alphabet but I never knew how to properly read it when it was all put together. I didn't know when for example to express the g or k sound for the first consonants but I knew how to recognize it. Thank you

I never comment on any KZbin videos but your video is so well explained that I really want the algorithm and the people who get to this video to know that this is super high-quality content and that I did learn from all you said. Thank you

Just within the first TWO MINUTES you are more helpful than any other beginner video. I would get so confused with the "giyeok" letter. Wondering why it sometimes sounds more like g, sometimes more like k in different words with no explanation. Now I have an explanation!

Oh wow! This is simultaneously the most helpful, intensive, thorough, and dense explanation I've come across! I got almost 8 minutes in and need to take a break to process! I've tried a few times to learn Korean before (just as a side project) and I thought the different way you pronounced the consonants was just kind of random or dependent on the word! I didn't realize the top/bottom consonant rule!!! That's so good to know! (And I'm relieved to look through the comments and see I wasn't the only one who didn't learn that until this video!)

This video was so good at explaining how to read the words and sound them out I never truly knew the consonants has names and by now knowing their names this made it so much easier!! No truly cause saying the names literally tells you how to sound out/say the consonant. Thank you so much! Now I’m gonna practice writing some words out and trying to say them right
